Sarwar: Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel Shakir: Nay! man is most surely inordinate, Pickthall: Nay, but verily man is rebellious Yusufali: Day, but man doth transgress all bounds,
﴿۷﴾
Qarib: that he sees himself sufficed.
Sarwar: because he thinks that he is independent. Shakir: Because he sees himself free from want Pickthall: That he thinketh himself independent! Yusufali: In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient.
﴿۸﴾
Qarib: Indeed, to your Lord is the returning.
Sarwar: However, (all things) will return to your Lord. Shakir: Surely to your Lord is the return Pickthall: Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. Yusufali: Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all).
﴿۹﴾
Qarib: What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids
Sarwar: Have you seen the one who prohibits Shakir: Have you seen him who forbids Pickthall: Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth Yusufali: Seest thou one who forbids-

Sarwar: a servant of Ours from prayer? Shakir: A servant when he prays? Pickthall: A slave when he prayeth? Yusufali: A votary when he (turns) to pray?
Qarib: Have you seen if he was upon guidance
Sarwar: What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided Shakir: Have you considered if he were on the right way, Pickthall: Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) Yusufali: Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?-
Qarib: or orders piety?
Sarwar: or if he commands others to maintain piety!? Shakir: Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? Pickthall: Or enjoineth piety? Yusufali: Or enjoins Righteousness?
Qarib: What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away,
Sarwar: What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? Shakir: Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? Pickthall: Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? Yusufali: Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? |
