بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ
﴿۱﴾
Qarib: Have you received the news of the Enveloper?
Sarwar: Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? Shakir: Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? Pickthall: Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? Yusufali: Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)?
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَاشِعَةٌ
﴿۲﴾
Qarib: On that Day faces shall be humbled,
Sarwar: On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, Shakir: (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, Pickthall: On that day (many) faces will be downcast, Yusufali: Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated,
عَامِلَةٌ نَاصِبَةٌ
﴿۳﴾
Qarib: laboring, wornout,
Sarwar: troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. Shakir: Laboring, toiling, Pickthall: Toiling, weary, Yusufali: Labouring (hard), weary,-
تَصْلَى نَارًا حَامِيَةً
﴿۴﴾
Qarib: roasting at a scorching Fire
Sarwar: They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire Shakir: Entering into burning fire, Pickthall: Scorched by burning fire, Yusufali: The while they enter the Blazing Fire,-
تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ
﴿۵﴾
Qarib: that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain,
Sarwar: and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. Shakir: Made to drink from a boiling spring Pickthall: Drinking from a boiling spring, Yusufali: The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring,
لَيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ ضَرِيعٍ
﴿۶﴾
Qarib: no food for them except thorny plants
Sarwar: They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit Shakir: They shall have no food but of thorns, Pickthall: No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit Yusufali: No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari'
لَا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِنْ جُوعٍ
﴿۷﴾
Qarib: which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger.
Sarwar: which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. Shakir: Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger Pickthall: Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. Yusufali: Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger.
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَاعِمَةٌ
﴿۸﴾
Qarib: (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful,
Sarwar: However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. Shakir: (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, Pickthall: In that day other faces will be calm, Yusufali: (Other) faces that Day will be joyful,
لِسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ
﴿۹﴾
Qarib: well pleased with their striving,
Sarwar: and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. Shakir: Well-pleased because of their striving, Pickthall: Glad for their effort past, Yusufali: Pleased with their striving,-
فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
﴿۱۰﴾
Qarib: in a Garden on high,
Sarwar: They will live in an exalted garden Shakir: In a lofty garden, Pickthall: In a high Garden Yusufali: In a Garden on high, |
