Qarib: Indeed, these love the hasty life, and are heedless and leave behind them a heavy Day.
Sarwar: These people (disbelievers) love the worldly life and neglect the terrifying day which will come. Shakir: Surely these love the transitory and neglect a grievous day before them Pickthall: Lo! these love fleeting life, and put behind them (the remembrance of) a grievous day. Yusufali: As to these, they love the fleeting life, and put away behind them a Day (that will be) hard.
Qarib: We created them, and We strengthened their joints, but, when We will, We shall indeed exchange their likes.
Sarwar: We have created them and have given them strength. Had We wanted, We could have replaced them with another people like them. Shakir: We created them and made firm their make, and when We please We will bring in their place the likes of them by a change Pickthall: We, even We, created them, and strengthened their frame. And when We will, We can replace them, bringing others like them in their stead. Yusufali: It is We Who created them, and We have made their joints strong; but, when We will, We can substitute the like of them by a complete change.
Qarib: This is indeed a Reminder, so that he who will, takes a path to his Lord.
Sarwar: This chapter is a reminder. Let those who want, seek guidance from their Lord. Shakir: Surely this is a reminder, so whoever pleases takes to his Lord a way Pickthall: Lo! this is an Admonishment, that whosoever will may choose a way unto his Lord. Yusufali: This is an admonition: Whosoever will, let him take a (straight) Path to his Lord.
Qarib: Yet you will not unless Allah wills; surely, Allah is the Knower, the Wise.
Sarwar: (The virtuous mentioned in this chapter) want only what God wants. God is All-knowing and All-wise. Shakir: And you do not please except that Allah please, surely Allah is Knowing, Wise; Pickthall: Yet ye will not, unless Allah willeth. Lo! Allah is Knower, Wise. Yusufali: But ye will not, except as Allah wills; for Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom.
Qarib: He is Merciful to whom He will; but, for the harmdoers He has prepared for them a painful punishment.
Sarwar: He admits to His mercy whomever He wants. For the unjust He has prepared a painful punishment. Shakir: He makes whom He pleases to enter into His mercy; and (as for) the unjust, He has prepared for them a painful chastisement Pickthall: He maketh whom He will to enter His mercy, and for evil-doers hath prepared a painful doom. Yusufali: He will admit to His Mercy whom He will; But the wrong-doers,- for them has He prepared a grievous Penalty. |
