وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَى
﴿۵۳﴾
Qarib: He plunged the villages
Sarwar: It is He who turned upside down the people of Lot Shakir: And the overthrown cities did He overthrow, Pickthall: And Al-Mu'tafikah He destroyed Yusufali: And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah).
فَغَشَّاهَا مَا غَشَّى
﴿۵۴﴾
Qarib: so that there came upon them that which came.
Sarwar: and covered them with torment. Shakir: So there covered them that which covered Pickthall: So that there covered them that which did cover. Yusufali: So that (ruins unknown) have covered them up.
فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَى
﴿۵۵﴾
Qarib: So which then of your Lord's favors do you dispute?
Sarwar: About which of the bounties of your Lord can they persistently dispute? Shakir: Which of your Lord's benefits will you then dispute about? Pickthall: Concerning which then, of the bounties of thy Lord, canst thou dispute? Yusufali: Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about?
هَذَا نَذِيرٌ مِنَ النُّذُرِ الْأُولَى
﴿۵۶﴾
Qarib: This is a warner from the warners of ancient times.
Sarwar: This is a (Prophet) like that of the ancient warners (Prophets). Shakir: This is a warner of the warners of old Pickthall: This is a warner of the warners of old. Yusufali: This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old!
أَزِفَتِ الْآزِفَةُ
﴿۵۷﴾
Qarib: The Imminent is near at hand;
Sarwar: The Day of Judgment is drawing nearer. Shakir: The near event draws nigh Pickthall: The threatened Hour is nigh. Yusufali: The (Judgment) ever approaching draws nigh:
لَيْسَ لَهَا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
﴿۵۸﴾
Qarib: none except Allah can disclose it.
Sarwar: No one besides God can rescue a soul from hardship. Shakir: There shall be none besides Allah to remove it Pickthall: None beside Allah can disclose it. Yusufali: No (soul) but Allah can lay it bare.
أَفَمِنْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
﴿۵۹﴾
Qarib: Do you marvel then at this discourse (the Koran)?
Sarwar: Does this statement seem strange to them Shakir: Do you then wonder at this announcement? Pickthall: Marvel ye then at this statement, Yusufali: Do ye then wonder at this recital?
وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
﴿۶۰﴾
Qarib: Or do you laugh, and do you not weep
Sarwar: and do they laugh instead of weeping, Shakir: And will you laugh and not weep? Pickthall: And laugh and not weep, Yusufali: And will ye laugh and not weep,-
وَأَنْتُمْ سَامِدُونَ
﴿۶۱﴾
Qarib: while you are thoughtless?
Sarwar: indulging in carelessly idle games? Shakir: While you are indulging in varieties Pickthall: While ye amuse yourselves? Yusufali: Wasting your time in vanities?
فَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَاعْبُدُوا
﴿۶۲﴾
Qarib: Rather, prostrate to Allah and worship Him.
Sarwar: So prostrate yourselves before God and worship him. Shakir: So make obeisance to Allah and serve (Him) Pickthall: Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him. Yusufali: But fall ye down in prostration to Allah, and adore (Him)! |
