بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ
﴿۱﴾
Qarib: When the sky is torn apart,
Sarwar: When the heavens are rent asunder Shakir: When the heaven bursts asunder, Pickthall: When the heaven is split asunder Yusufali: When the sky is rent asunder,
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
﴿۲﴾
Qarib: hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do;
Sarwar: in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, Shakir: And obeys its Lord and it must Pickthall: And attentive to her Lord in fear, Yusufali: And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);-
وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ
﴿۳﴾
Qarib: when the earth is stretched out
Sarwar: when the earth is stretched out Shakir: And when the earth is stretched, Pickthall: And when the earth is spread out Yusufali: And when the earth is flattened out,
وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ
﴿۴﴾
Qarib: and casts out all that is within and voids itself,
Sarwar: and throws out of itself all that it contains Shakir: And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, Pickthall: And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty Yusufali: And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty,
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
﴿۵﴾
Qarib: obeying its Lord, as it must do!
Sarwar: in obedience to the commands of its Lord which are incumbent on it, (the human being will receive due recompense for his deeds). Shakir: And obeys its Lord and it must Pickthall: And attentive to her Lord in fear! Yusufali: And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality).
يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنْسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَى رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَاقِيهِ
﴿۶﴾
Qarib: O human, you are working hard towards your Lord and you will meet Him.
Sarwar: Human being, you strive hard to get closer to your Lord, and so you will certainly receive the recompense (of your deeds). Shakir: O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him Pickthall: Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). Yusufali: O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him.
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ
﴿۷﴾
Qarib: Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand
Sarwar: The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands Shakir: Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, Pickthall: Then whoso is given his account in his right hand Yusufali: Then he who is given his Record in his right hand,
فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا
﴿۸﴾
Qarib: shall have an easy reckoning
Sarwar: will be easy, Shakir: He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, Pickthall: He truly will receive an easy reckoning Yusufali: Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning,
وَيَنْقَلِبُ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا
﴿۹﴾
Qarib: and will return rejoicing to his family.
Sarwar: and they will return to their people, delighted Shakir: And he shall go back to his people joyful Pickthall: And will return unto his folk in joy. Yusufali: And he will turn to his people, rejoicing!
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ
﴿۱۰﴾
Qarib: But he who is given his Book from behind his back
Sarwar: But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, Shakir: And as to him who is given his book behind his back, Pickthall: But whoso is given his account behind his back, Yusufali: But he who is given his Record behind his back,-
فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُو ثُبُورًا
﴿۱۱﴾
Qarib: shall call for destruction
Sarwar: they will say, "Woe to us!" Shakir: He shall call for perdition, Pickthall: He surely will invoke destruction Yusufali: Soon will he cry for perdition,
وَيَصْلَى سَعِيرًا
﴿۱۲﴾
Qarib: and roast at the Blaze.
Sarwar: They will suffer the heat of hell fire. Shakir: And enter into burning fire Pickthall: And be thrown to scorching fire. Yusufali: And he will enter a Blazing Fire.
إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا
﴿۱۳﴾
Qarib: Once, he lived joyfully among his family
Sarwar: They lived among their people joyfully Shakir: Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers Pickthall: He verily lived joyous with his folk, Yusufali: Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing!
إِنَّهُ ظَنَّ أَنْ لَنْ يَحُورَ
﴿۱۴﴾
Qarib: and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord).
Sarwar: and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. Shakir: Surely he thought that he would never return Pickthall: He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). Yusufali: Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)!
بَلَى إِنَّ رَبَّهُ كَانَ بِهِ بَصِيرًا
﴿۱۵﴾
Qarib: Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him.
Sarwar: This is a fact. Their Lord is Well-Aware of (all that they do). Shakir: Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him Pickthall: Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! Yusufali: Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him!
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِ
﴿۱۶﴾
Qarib: I swear by the twilight;
Sarwar: I do not need to swear by the sunset, Shakir: But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, Pickthall: Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, Yusufali: So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset;
وَاللَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ
﴿۱۷﴾
Qarib: by the night and all that it envelops;
Sarwar: or by the night in which things all come together to rest, Shakir: And the night and that which it drives on, Pickthall: And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, Yusufali: The Night and its Homing;
وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ
﴿۱۸﴾
Qarib: by the moon, in its fullness
Sarwar: or by the moon when it is full, Shakir: And the moon when it grows full, Pickthall: And by the moon when she is at the full, Yusufali: And the Moon in her fullness:
لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَنْ طَبَقٍ
﴿۱۹﴾
Qarib: that you shall surely ride from stage to stage.
Sarwar: that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. Shakir: That you shall most certainly enter one state after another Pickthall: That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. Yusufali: Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage.
فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
﴿۲۰﴾
Qarib: What is the matter with them, that they do not believe
Sarwar: What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? Shakir: But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, Pickthall: What aileth them, then, that they believe not Yusufali: What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?-
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْآنُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ
﴿۲۱﴾
Qarib: and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate!
Sarwar: Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? Shakir: And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? Pickthall: And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)? Yusufali: And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate,
بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُكَذِّبُونَ
﴿۲۲﴾
Qarib: No, the unbelievers only belie,
Sarwar: In fact, they reject the Quran, Shakir: Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth Pickthall: Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; Yusufali: But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it).
وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ
﴿۲۳﴾
Qarib: and Allah knows very well what they gather.
Sarwar: but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. Shakir: And Allah knows best what they hide, Pickthall: And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding. Yusufali: But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts)
فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
﴿۲۴﴾
Qarib: Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment,
Sarwar: (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment Shakir: So announce to them a painful punishment~ Pickthall: So give them tidings of a painful doom, Yusufali: So announce to them a Penalty Grievous,
إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ
﴿۲۵﴾
Qarib: except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense.
Sarwar: except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. Shakir: Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off Pickthall: Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing. Yusufali: Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. |
