Qarib: No, in truth, it is a Furnace!
Sarwar: By no means! For the raging flames of the fire Shakir: By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire Pickthall: But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell Yusufali: By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!-
Qarib: It snatches away by the scalps,
Sarwar: will strip-off the flesh Shakir: Dragging by the head, Pickthall: Eager to roast; Yusufali: Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!-
Qarib: and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back
Sarwar: and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), Shakir: It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), Pickthall: It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), Yusufali: Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right).
Qarib: and amassed (riches) and hoarded.
Sarwar: and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. Shakir: And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up Pickthall: And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. Yusufali: And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)!
Qarib: Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient.
Sarwar: Human beings are created greedy. Shakir: Surely man is created of a hasty temperament Pickthall: Lo! man was created anxious, Yusufali: Truly man was created very impatient;-
Qarib: When evil comes upon him he is impatient;
Sarwar: When they are afflicted, they complain, Shakir: Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him Pickthall: Fretful when evil befalleth him Yusufali: Fretful when evil touches him;
Qarib: but when good comes upon him, he is grudging
Sarwar: but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly Shakir: And niggardly when good befalls him Pickthall: And, when good befalleth him, grudging; Yusufali: And niggardly when good reaches him;-
Qarib: except those that pray
Sarwar: except those who are steadfast Shakir: Except those who pray, Pickthall: Save worshippers. Yusufali: Not so those devoted to Prayer;-
Qarib: who are constant in prayer;
Sarwar: and constant in their prayers. Shakir: Those who are constant at their prayer Pickthall: Who are constant at their worship Yusufali: Those who remain steadfast to their prayer;
Qarib: who, from their wealth is a known right
Sarwar: They are those who assign a certain share of their property Shakir: And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion Pickthall: And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged Yusufali: And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. |
