Qarib: Has He chosen daughters above sons?
Sarwar: Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? Shakir: Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? Pickthall: (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. Yusufali: Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons?
Qarib: What is the matter with you? How do you judge?
Sarwar: Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. Shakir: What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? Pickthall: What aileth you? How judge ye? Yusufali: What is the matter with you? How judge ye?
Qarib: What, will you not remember?
Sarwar: Do you not understand? Shakir: Will you not then mind? Pickthall: Will ye not then reflect? Yusufali: Will ye not then receive admonition?
Qarib: Or, do you have a clear authority?
Sarwar: Do you have clear authority? Shakir: Or have you a clear authority? Pickthall: Or have ye a clear warrant? Yusufali: Or have ye an authority manifest?
Qarib: Bring your Book, if what you say is true!
Sarwar: Bring your book if what you say is true. Shakir: Then bring your book, if you are truthful Pickthall: Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. Yusufali: Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful!
Qarib: They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell).
Sarwar: They have said that there is a relationship between Him and the jinn. The jinn certainly know that they will all be brought to suffer torment. Shakir: And they assert a relationship between Him and the jinn; and certainly the jinn do know that they shall surely be brought up; Pickthall: And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him). Yusufali: And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment-Seat)!
Qarib: Exaltations to Allah above what they describe,
Sarwar: God is too glorious to be described as they describe Him Shakir: Glory be to Allah (for freedom) from what they describe; Pickthall: Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), Yusufali: Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)!
Qarib: except for the sincere worshipers of Allah.
Sarwar: except the servants of God, sincere and devoted. Shakir: But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones Pickthall: Save single-minded slaves of Allah. Yusufali: Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted.
Qarib: But as for you, and that you worship,
Sarwar: You and whatever you worship Shakir: So surely you and what you worship, Pickthall: Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship, Yusufali: For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship-
Qarib: you shall tempt none against Him
Sarwar: cannot mislead anyone Shakir: Not against Him can you cause (any) to fall into trial, Pickthall: Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. Yusufali: Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, |
