Qarib: If We had revealed it to a nonArab,
Sarwar: Had We revealed it to a non-Arab Shakir: And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners Pickthall: And if We had revealed it unto one of any other nation than the Arabs, Yusufali: Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs,
Qarib: and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed.
Sarwar: who would have read it to them, they (pagans) would not have believed in it. Shakir: So that he should have recited it to them, they would not have believed therein Pickthall: And he had read it unto them, they would not have believed in it. Yusufali: And had he recited it to them, they would not have believed in it.
Qarib: Even so, We have caused it to enter into the hearts of harmdoers:
Sarwar: Thus it passes through the hearts of the criminals. Shakir: Thus have We caused it to enter into the hearts of the guilty Pickthall: Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty. Yusufali: Thus have We caused it to enter the hearts of the sinners.
Qarib: they shall not believe in it until they see the painful punishment
Sarwar: They will not believe in it until they suffer the painful torment. Shakir: They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment Pickthall: They will not believe in it till they behold the painful doom, Yusufali: They will not believe in it until they see the grievous Penalty;
Qarib: so that it will come upon them suddenly, while they are unaware,
Sarwar: The torment will strike them suddenly without their knowledge. Shakir: And it shall come to them all of a sudden, while they shall not perceive; Pickthall: So that it will come upon them suddenly, when they perceive not. Yusufali: But the (Penalty) will come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not;
Qarib: and then they will say: 'Shall we be respited? '
Sarwar: They will say, "Can we be granted any respite?" Shakir: Then they will say: Shall we be respited? Pickthall: Then they will say: Are we to be reprieved? Yusufali: Then they will say: "Shall we be respited?"
Qarib: Do they wish to hasten Our punishment?
Sarwar: Do they want to hasten Our torment? Shakir: What! do they still seek to hasten on Our punishment? Pickthall: Would they (now) hasten on Our doom? Yusufali: Do they then ask for Our Penalty to be hastened on?
Qarib: What do you see? If We gave them enjoyment for years,
Sarwar: Do you not see that even if We give them respite for years Shakir: Have you then considered if We let them enjoy themselves for years, Pickthall: Hast thou then seen, if We content them for (long) years, Yusufali: Seest thou? If We do let them enjoy (this life) for a few years,
Qarib: and then what they were promised comes to them,
Sarwar: and then Our torment will strike them, Shakir: Then there comes to them that with which they are threatened, Pickthall: And then cometh that which they were promised, Yusufali: Yet there comes to them at length the (Punishment) which they were promised!
Qarib: what avail will their past enjoyments be to them?
Sarwar: none of their luxuries will be able to save them from the torment? Shakir: That which they were made to enjoy shall not avail them? Pickthall: (How) that wherewith they were contented naught availeth them? Yusufali: It will profit them not that they enjoyed (this life)! |
