Chapter 67: AL-MULK (THE SOVEREIGNTY)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
blessed be he in whose hand is the kingdom, he is powerful over all things, (1)

who created death and life that he might examine which of you is best in deeds, and he is the almighty, the forgiving, (2)

who created the seven heavens, one above the other. you cannot see any inconsistency in the creation of the merciful. return your gaze, do you see any crack! (3)

then return your gaze once more and yet again, your gaze comes back to you dazzled, and tired. (4)

we have adorned the lower heaven with lamps, and we made them a stoning for the satans, we have prepared the punishment of the blaze for them. (5)

and for those who disbelieve in their lord there awaits the punishment of gehenna (hell) an evil arrival! (6)

when they are cast into it they shall hear it sighing, while it boils (7)

nearly bursting apart out of rage. every time a host is cast therein, its keepers will ask them: 'did no one come to warn you? ' (8)

'yes, indeed' they will reply, 'but we belied the warner (messenger) saying: 'allah has not sent down anything, you are but in great error! ' (9)

and they will then say: 'if only we had listened and understood we should not now be among the inhabitants of the blaze. ' (10)

so it is that they confess their sins. curse the inhabitants of the blaze! (11)

but those who fear their lord in the unseen, for them there is forgiveness and a great wage. (12)

(whether you) speak in secret or aloud, he knows the innermost of the chests. (13)

shall he who has created (all things) not know? he is the subtle, the aware. (14)

it is he who has made the earth submissive to you. walk about in its land and eat of his provision. to him is the resurrection. (15)

do you feel secure that he who is in the heaven will not cause the earth to swallow you up while it shakes? (16)

do you feel secure that he who is in the heaven will not loose against you a squall of pebbles then you shall know how was my warning. (17)

those who have gone before you also belied (their messengers) then how was my disapproval! (18)

do they not observe the birds above them, spreading their wings and folding them? none, except the merciful holds them. surely, he sees all things. (19)

or, who is it that shall be your host to help you, other than the merciful? indeed, the unbelievers are only deluded. (20)

or, who is it that shall provide for you if he withholds his provision? yet they persist in arrogance and aversion. (21)

what, is he who walks, falling upon his face, more guided than he who walks upright on a straight path! (22)

say: 'it is he who has created you and given to you hearing, sight and hearts but little is it that you thank' (23)

say: 'it was he who created you, dispersing you in the earth, and to him you shall be gathered. ' (24)

they ask: 'when will this promise come, if you speak truthfully? ' (25)

say: 'the knowledge (of that) is with allah; i am only a clear warner. ' (26)

then, when they see it drawing near, the faces of the unbelievers will be blackened, and it is said: 'this is what you were promised. ' (27)

say: 'what do you think, if allah destroys me and those with me, or has mercy upon us, who then will protect the unbelievers from the painful punishment? ' (28)

say: 'he is the merciful. in him we believe and in him we put all our trust. indeed, you shall soon know who is in clear error. ' (29)

say: 'what do you think. if your water should sink into the earth in the morning, who then would bring you running water? ' (30)

Chapter 68: AL-QALAM (THE PEN)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
noon. by the pen and that (the angels) write, (1)

you are not, because of the favor of your lord, mad. (2)

indeed, there is an unfailing wage for you. (3)

surely, you (prophet muhammad) are of a great morality. (4)

you shall see and they will see (5)

which of you is the demented. (6)

indeed, your lord knows very well those who strayed from his path, and those who are guided. (7)

therefore, do not obey those who belie, (8)

they wish you would compromise, then, they would compromise. (9)

and do not obey every mean swearer, (10)

the backbiter who goes about slandering, (11)

those who hinder good, the guilty aggressor, (12)

the crude of low character (13)

because he has wealth and sons. (14)

when our verses are recited to him, he says: 'they are but fairytales of the ancients! ' (15)

we shall mark him upon his nose! (16)

we have tried them as we tried the owners of the garden who had sworn that in the morning they would reap it, (17)

without adding to their swearing, (allah willing, inshaallah). (18)

then, a visitation from your lord came down upon it while they slept, (19)

and in the morning it was if the garden had been reaped. (20)

(then) in the morning they called out to one another, saying: (21)

'come out to your tillage if you want to reap! ' (22)

and so they departed, whispering to one another: (23)

'no needy person shall set foot in it today. ' (24)

and they went out early, determined in their resolve. (25)

but when they saw it they said: 'we have surely gone astray. (26)

no, rather, we have been prevented! ' (27)

(whereupon) the best among them said: 'did i not say to you to exalt (allah)? ' (28)

'exaltations to allah, our lord, ' they said, 'we were truly harmdoers. ' (29)

and they came blaming one another. (30)

they said 'woe to us, truly we were insolent! ' (31)

it may be that our lord will give us better than it in exchange. to our lord we humbly turn. ' (32)

such was their punishment. but the punishment of the everlasting life is much greater, if they but knew. (33)

surely, the cautious shall have gardens of bliss with their lord. (34)

what, shall we make those who are submissive like the wrongdoers? (35)

what is the matter with you then, how do you judge? (36)

or, have you a book from which you study (37)

surely in it you shall have whatever you choose! (38)

or, have you an oath from us that stretches to the day of resurrection (if so) you shall surely have what you judge! (39)

ask them, which of them will guarantee that! (40)

or, do they have associates? then let them bring their associates, if what they say is true! (41)

on the day when the leg shall be bared, and they are ordered to prostrate themselves, they will be unable. (42)

their eyes will be humbled, and humiliation shall spread over them for they were already ordered to prostrate themselves when they were undiminished. (43)

therefore, leave me with he who belied this discourse. we will draw them on little by little from where they do not know. (44)

i shall respite them, my stratagem is firm. (45)

or, do you ask them for a wage, so that they are burdened with debt? (46)

or, is the unseen with them, and they are writing it down! (47)

so be patient with the judgement of your lord and do not be like the companion of the whale (jonah), when he called out choking inwardly. (48)

had the favor of his lord not come upon him, he would have been blamed, cast upon the shore. (49)

but his lord had chosen him and he placed him among the righteous. (50)

when the unbelievers hear the reminder, they nearly strike you down with their glances, and say: 'surely, he is mad! ' (51)

but it is nothing other than a reminder for all the worlds. (52)

Chapter 69: AL-HAAQQA (THE REALITY)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
the resurrection verifier; (1)

and what is the resurrection verifier? (2)

what makes you to know what the resurrection verifier is? (3)

thamood and aad belied the clatterer. (4)

thamood, they were destroyed by the violent shout (of gabriel), (5)

as for aad, they were destroyed by a howling, violent wind (6)

that he subjected upon them for seven nights and eight days consecutively and you might have seen them struck down as if they were the stumps of palm trees that had fallen down. (7)

can you see any remnant of them now? (8)

similarly, pharaoh, and those before him, and the ruined villages, sinned (9)

and rebelled against their lord's messenger. so he took them with a stern taking. (10)

and when the waters rose (high) we carried you in the sailing (ark), (11)

making it a reminder for you, for all attentive ears to retain. (12)

when a single blow is blown on the horn, (13)

when the earth with all its mountains is lifted up and crushed with a single blow, (14)

on that day, the event occurs. (15)

the heaven will be split; because on that day it will be frail. (16)

the angels will stand on all its sides. and on that day, eight (of them) will carry the throne of your lord above them. (17)

on that day you shall be exposed, and no secret of yours will remain hidden. (18)

then, he who is given his book in his right hand will say: 'here, take and read my book! (19)

indeed, i knew that i should come to my reckoning. ' (20)

his shall be a pleasing life (21)

in a high garden, (22)

its fruits are near. (23)

(it will be said): 'eat and drink with a good appetite because of what you did in days long passed. ' (24)

but, he who is given his book in his left hand will say: 'woe to me, would that my book had not been given to me! (25)

nor that i knew my reckoning! (26)

would that it (my death) had ended it all! (27)

my wealth has not helped me a thing (28)

and my authority has been destroyed. ' (29)

(it will be said): 'take him and bind him. (30)

roast him in hell, (31)

then in a chain seventy arm's lengths long insert him. (32)

he did not believe in allah, the great, (33)

nor did he urge the feeding of the needy. (34)

today he shall have no loyal friend here, (35)

nor any food except foul pus (36)

that none but sinners eat. ' (37)

i swear by all that you can see, (38)

and all that you do not see, (39)

that this is the speech of a noble messenger. (40)

it is not the speech of a poet little do you believe (41)

nor is it the speech of a soothsayer little do you remember. (42)

(it is) a sending down from the lord of all the worlds. (43)

had he invented sayings against us, (44)

we would have seized him by the right hand (45)

then, we would surely have cut from him the aorta (vein) (46)

not one of you could have prevented it from him. (47)

indeed, it is a reminder to those who fear allah, (48)

we know that there are some among you who will belie. (49)

indeed, it is a sorrow to the unbelievers (50)

yet it is a certain truth. (51)

exalt the name of your lord, the great. (52)

Chapter 70: AL-MAARIJ (THE ASCENDING STAIRWAYS)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
a caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on (1)

the unbelievers which none can prevent. (2)

(a punishment) from allah, the owner of the elevated passages. (3)

to him the angels and the spirit (gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. (4)

therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; (5)

they see it as being far off; (6)

but we see it near. (7)

on that day the heaven shall become like molten copper, (8)

and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. (9)

no loyal friend will ask another loyal friend (10)

though they are in sight of each other. to ransom himself from the punishment of that day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, (11)

his companion (wife), his brother, (12)

the kinsmen who gave him shelter, (13)

and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. (14)

no, in truth, it is a furnace! (15)

it snatches away by the scalps, (16)

and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back (17)

and amassed (riches) and hoarded. (18)

indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. (19)

when evil comes upon him he is impatient; (20)

but when good comes upon him, he is grudging (21)

except those that pray (22)

who are constant in prayer; (23)

who, from their wealth is a known right (24)

for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, (25)

who confirm the day of reckoning (26)

and go in fear of the punishment of their lord, (27)

for none is secure from the punishment of their lord, (28)

who guard their privates (29)

except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. (30)

but whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. (31)

(those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, (32)

and standby their witnessing, (33)

and who are constant in their prayers. (34)

those are highly honored in the gardens. (35)

but what is the matter with the unbelievers, that they strain their glances continuously towards them, (36)

on the right and on the left in groups? (37)

what, is every one of them eager to be admitted to the garden of bliss? (38)

not at all, for we have created them of what they know. (39)

no, i swear by the lord of the easts and the wests that we have the ability (40)

to exchange them with others better than they; nothing can outstrip us! (41)

so leave them alone to plunge and play, until they encounter the day which they are promised; (42)

the day when they shall rush from their graves, as if they were hurrying to a raised flag, (43)

their eyes are humbled and they are covered with humiliation. such is the day that they were promised. (44)

Chapter 71: NOOH (NOOH)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
we sent noah to his nation, saying: 'give warning to your nation before a painful punishment overtakes them. ' (1)

he said: 'my nation, i am a clear warner for you. (2)

worship allah, fear him, and obey me. (3)

he will forgive you your sins and respite you till an appointed term. when the term of allah arrives it cannot be deferred; if you but knew. ' (4)

'my lord, ' said he, 'night and day i have called my nation, (5)

but my call has only increased them in running away. (6)

each time i called them so that you might forgive them, they thrust their fingers in their ears and wrapped themselves in their garments, and persisted becoming very proud. (7)

i called to them clearly, (8)

and indeed, i spoke to them both publicly and in secret: (9)

"ask for forgiveness of your lord," i said. "surely, he is the forgiver. (10)

he will let loose the sky upon you in abundance (11)

and give to you wealth and sons, and provide you with gardens and rivers. (12)

what is the matter with you that you do not want the greatness of allah, (13)

he has created you by stages! (14)

have you not seen how allah created the seven heavens one above the other, (15)

setting in them the moon as a light and the sun as a lantern? (16)

allah has caused you to grow out of the earth, (17)

and to it he will return you. then, he will bring you forth. (18)

allah has made the earth spread out for you (19)

so that you walk in its spacious paths." ' (20)

noah said: 'my lord, they have rebelled against me and followed he whose wealth and offspring increase him only in loss, (21)

they have devised a mighty plot, (22)

and said: 'do not renounce your gods, do not leave waddan or suwa'an or yaghutha, or ya'uqa, or nasra. ' (23)

and they have led many astray. (noah supplicated saying): 'allah, do not increase the harmdoers except in error! ' (24)

so because of their sins they were drowned and admitted into the fire. they found none to help them other than allah. (25)

and noah (supplicated) saying: 'my lord, do not leave a single unbeliever upon the earth. (26)

surely, if you leave them they will mislead your worshipers and father none but the immoral, and unbelievers. (27)

forgive me, my lord, and my parents, and whosoever seeks refuge in my house as a believer, and the believers men and women alike, and do not increase the harmdoers except in ruin! ' (28)

Chapter 72: AL-JINN (THE JINN)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
say: 'it is revealed to me that a party of jinn listened then said: "we have indeed heard a wonderful koran, (1)

that guides to the right path. we believe in it and we will not associate anyone with our lord. (2)

he exalted be the majesty of our lord, who has neither taken to himself a wife, nor a son! (3)

the ignorant fool among us has spoken outrageously against allah, (4)

we never thought that either human or jinn would ever tell a lie against allah!" ' (5)

but there were certain men from mankind who would take refuge with certain males from the jinn and they increased them in tyranny. (6)

like you, they thought that allah would never raise the dead. (7)

(the jinn continued saying): "we made our way towards heaven, but we found it filled with stern guards and a flame. (8)

there, we would sit to eavesdrop, but now an eavesdropper finds a flame in wait for him. (9)

and so we do not know whether evil is intended for those on earth, or whether their lord intends to guide them. (10)

some of us are righteous, but some are otherwise, we are sects that differ. (11)

we know that we cannot frustrate allah in the earth, nor can we frustrate him by flight. (12)

when we heard the guidance, we believed in it, and whosoever believes in his lord shall fear neither shortage nor injustice. (13)

some of us have surrendered (muslims) and some of us have deviated. those who surrendered sought the right path, (14)

but those who have deviated shall become the fuel of gehenna (hell). (15)

if they had followed the path we would give to them abundant water to drink, (16)

and tested them with it. and whosoever turns away from his lord's remembrance, he will hurl him into a stern punishment. (17)

mosques belong to allah, so do not call to anyone else, other than allah. (18)

when the worshiper of allah stood supplicating to him, they swarmed around him (prophet muhammad). (19)

say: 'i supplicate only to my lord and i do not associate any with him. ' (20)

say: 'indeed, i possess no power over you, either for harm or for guidance. ' (21)

say: 'none shall protect me from allah, and other than him, i will find no refuge, (22)

except a deliverance from allah and his messages. he who disobeys allah and his messenger, for him is the fire of gehenna, which he will be in for ever. (23)

when they see that which they were promised they shall know who is weaker in helpers and fewer in numbers. (24)

say: 'i do not know whether that which you are promised is near, or whether my lord will set for it a time. (25)

he is the knower of the unseen and does not disclose his unseen to anyone, (26)

except only to a messenger that he has chosen, and he sends guardians before him and behind him, (27)

so that he may know that they have delivered the messages of their lord and he encompasses all that is with them, and he has counted everything in numbers. ' (28)

Chapter 73: AL-MUZZAMMIL (THE ENSHROUDED ONE)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
o you (prophet muhammad) wrapped, (1)

rise (to pray) the night except a little; (2)

half the night, or a little less (3)

or a little more; and with recitation, recite the koran. (4)

we are about to cast upon you a weighty word. (5)

indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. (6)

you have by day prolonged occupations. (7)

remember the name of your lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to him. (8)

he is the lord of the east and the west; there is no god except him. take him for your guardian. (9)

bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. (10)

leave to me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. (11)

we have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, (12)

choking food and a painful punishment. (13)

on the day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. (14)

indeed, we have sent to you a messenger as a witness over you, just as we sent a messenger to pharaoh. (15)

pharaoh disobeyed our messenger, so we seized him remorselessly. (16)

if you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the day that will make children gray haired, (17)

on which the heaven will split apart, and his promise is done. (18)

this is indeed a reminder. let whosoever will take the path to his lord. (19)

your lord knows that you keep vigil nearly two thirds of the night and sometimes half or onethird of it, and a party of those with you. allah measures the night and the day. he knows that you cannot count it, and turns to you. therefore, recite from the koran as much as is easy (for you); he knows that among you there are the sick and others traveling the road seeking the bounty of allah; and others fighting in the way of allah. so then, recite from it as much as is easy. establish your prayers, pay the obligatory charity, and lend allah a generous loan. whatever good you shall forward to your souls' account, you surely will find it better with allah, and a mightier wage. and supplicate for the forgiveness of allah. allah is the forgiving, the merciful. (20)

Chapter 74: AL-MUDDATHTHIR (THE CLOAKED ONE)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
o you (prophet muhamad), the cloaked, (1)

arise and warn, (2)

and exalt your lord, (3)

and purify your clothing, (4)

and flee from the statues! (5)

do not give, thinking to gain greater (6)

be patient unto your lord. (7)

when the horn is blown, (8)

that shall be a harsh day (9)

and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. (10)

leave me alone with he whom i created (11)

and designated for him ample wealth, (12)

and sons that stand in witness. (13)

i made things smooth and easy for him, (14)

yet he is eager that i increase him. (15)

not at all! surely, he has been disobedient to our verses. (16)

i will constrain him to a hard ascent. (17)

he reflected, and then determined (18)

death seized him, how was his determining! (19)

again, death seized him, how was his determining! (20)

then he looked, (21)

frowned and scowled; (22)

then he retreated and grew proud (23)

and said: 'this is no more than traced sorcery; (24)

it is nothing but the word of a mortal! ' (25)

i will surely roast him in the scorching. (26)

what will let you know what the scorching is like! (27)

it neither spares, nor releases, (28)

and it burns the flesh. (29)

over it are nineteen (angels guarding). (30)

we have appointed none but angels to guard the fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. and that those who were given the book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. and that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'what did allah intend by this as an example? ' as such, allah leaves in error whom he will and he guides whomsoever he will. none knows the hosts of your lord except he. this is no more than a reminder to humans. (31)

no, by the moon! (32)

by the receding night (33)

and the morning when it appears, (34)

it is one of the greatest trials, (35)

a warning to humans, (36)

to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. (37)

each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, (38)

except the companions of the right. (39)

in gardens they will question (40)

concerning the sinners, (41)

'what caused you to be thrust into the scorching (fire)? ' (42)

they will reply: 'we were not among those who prayed (43)

and we did not feed the needy. (44)

we plunged in with the plungers (45)

and belied the day of recompense (46)

till the certainty (death) overtook us. ' (47)

the intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. (48)

what is the matter with them that they turn away from this reminder, (49)

like startled wild donkeys (50)

fleeing before a lion? (51)

indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. (52)

no, indeed they have no fear of the everlasting life. (53)

no, indeed, surely, this is a reminder. (54)

so, whoever wills, will remember it. (55)

but none will remember, unless allah wills, he is the owner of fear, the owner of forgiveness. (56)

Chapter 75: AL-QIYAMA (THE RISING OF THE DEAD)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
no! i swear by the day of resurrection, (1)

no! i swear by the reproachful soul! (2)

what, does the human think we shall never gather his bones? (3)

indeed yes, we are able to shape his fingerstips yet again! (4)

rather, the human desires to continue in his immorality, (5)

'when will the day of resurrection be? ' he asks, (6)

but when the sight is dazed (7)

and the moon eclipsed, (8)

when the sun and moon are gathered together (9)

on that day the human will ask: 'to (which place) shall i flee? ' (10)

no, there shall be no (place of) refuge. (11)

for on that day the refuge shall be to your lord. (12)

on that day the human shall be informed of his former and latter deeds. (13)

he shall be a clear proof against himself, (14)

even though he offers his excuses. (15)

do not move your tongue with it (the revelation) to hasten it. (16)

it's gathering and reciting is upon us. (17)

when we recite it, follow its recitation. (18)

it's explanation is upon us. (19)

yet you love this hasty world (20)

and are heedless of the everlasting life. (21)

on that day there shall be radiant faces, (22)

gazing towards their lord. (23)

and on that day there shall be scowling faces, (24)

so they might think the calamity had been inflicted upon them. (25)

but, when (the soul) reaches the collar bone (26)

and it is said: 'who is a healing chanter? ' (27)

and when he thinks it is the time of departure (28)

and when leg is intertwined with leg, (29)

upon that day the driving shall be to your lord. (30)

because, he neither believed nor prayed; (31)

he belied the truth and turned away; (32)

then went arrogantly to his household. (33)

near to you and nearer, (34)

then nearer to you and nearer! (35)

does the human think he will be left to roam at will? (36)

what, was he not an ejaculated drop (of sperm)? (37)

then he was a clot of blood, then he created and formed him (38)

and made from him two kinds, male and female. (39)

what, is he then unable to revive the dead? (40)

Chapter 76: AL-INSAN (MAN)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. (1)

we have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; we made him to hear and see. (2)

indeed, we have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. (3)

indeed, for the unbelievers we have prepared chains, fetters and a blazing (fire). (4)

but the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; (5)

a fountain at which the worshipers of allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; (6)

they who keep their vows and fear a day whose evil is spread; (7)

who give food, for the love of him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, (8)

(saying): 'we feed you only desirous of the face of allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, (9)

for we fear from our lord a stern, frownful day. ' (10)

so allah will save them from the evil of that day and has secured for them radiance and joyfulness, (11)

and recompense them for their patience with a garden, and robes of silk. (12)

reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. (13)

near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, (14)

and passed around them shall be silver vessels, and crystal goblets, (15)

goblets of silver that they have precisely measured. (16)

and they shall be given to drink from a cup whose mixture is ginger, (17)

from a fountain called salsabila. (18)

immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. (19)

when you see them, you see bliss, and a great kingdom. (20)

upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. their lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. (21)

'see, this is your recompense, your striving is thanked. ' (22)

we have indeed, sent down to you the koran, a (clear) sending, (23)

therefore be patient under the judgement of your lord, and do not obey either the sinner or the unbeliever. (24)

and, remember the name of your lord at the dawn and in the evening; (25)

and in the night prostrate to him; and exalt him for a long night. (26)

indeed, these love the hasty life, and are heedless and leave behind them a heavy day. (27)

we created them, and we strengthened their joints, but, when we will, we shall indeed exchange their likes. (28)

this is indeed a reminder, so that he who will, takes a path to his lord. (29)

yet you will not unless allah wills; surely, allah is the knower, the wise. (30)

he is merciful to whom he will; but, for the harmdoers he has prepared for them a painful punishment. (31)

and by the scatterers scattering (rain) (3)

then the criterion (the verses of koran), separating (4)

surely, that which you have been promised is about to fall! (7)

when the stars are extinguished, (8)

and when the sky is rent asunder (9)

and the mountains scattered, (10)

and when the messengers' time is set (11)

to what day shall they be deferred? (12)

upon the day of decision! (13)

would that you knew what the day of decision is! (14)

woe on that day to those who belied it! (15)

did we not destroy the ancients (16)

and let the latter follow them? (17)

as such shall we deal with the sinners. (18)

woe on that day to those who belied it! (19)

did we not create you from a weak water, (20)

which we placed within a sure lodging (21)

for an appointed term? (22)

we determined, how excellent a determiner are we! (23)

woe on that day to those who belied it! (24)

have we not made the earth a housing (25)

for both the living and the dead? (26)

have we not placed high mountains upon it and filled you with sweet water? (27)

woe on that day to those who belied it! (28)

depart to that which you belied! (29)

depart into the shadow of three masses, (30)

wherein there is neither shade, nor freeing from the blazing flames (31)

it throws spits as (high as a huge) palace, (32)

as black camels. (33)

woe on that day to those who belied it! (34)

this is the day they shall not speak, (35)

nor shall they be given permission, so that they can apologize. (36)

woe on that day to those who belied it! (37)

such is the day of decision. we will gather you with the ancients. (38)

if you are cunning, then try your cunning against me! (39)

woe on that day to those who belied it! (40)

indeed, the cautious, shall live amid shades and fountains (41)

and have such fruits as they desire. (42)

(it shall be said to them): 'eat and drink, with a good appetite, for all that you did. ' (43)

as such we recompense those who did good. (44)

woe on that day to those who belied it! (45)

'eat and enjoy yourselves a little, for you are sinners! ' (46)

woe on that day to those who belied it! (47)

when it is said to them: 'bow yourselves, ' they do not bow. (48)

woe on that day to those who belied it! (49)

after this, in what discourse will they believe? (50)
