فَجَعَلَهُمْ جُذَاذًا إِلَّا كَبِيرًا لَهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ يَرْجِعُونَ
﴿۵۸﴾
He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. (58)
قَالُوا مَنْ فَعَلَ هَذَا بِآلِهَتِنَا إِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
﴿۵۹﴾
'Who has done this to our gods? ' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer. ' (59)
قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا فَتًى يَذْكُرُهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ
﴿۶۰﴾
'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. (60)
قَالُوا فَأْتُوا بِهِ عَلَى أَعْيُنِ النَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْهَدُونَ
﴿۶۱﴾
They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness. ' (61)
قَالُوا أَأَنْتَ فَعَلْتَ هَذَا بِآلِهَتِنَا يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ
﴿۶۲﴾
'Abraham, ' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods? ' (62)
قَالَ بَلْ فَعَلَهُ كَبِيرُهُمْ هَذَا فَاسْأَلُوهُمْ إِنْ كَانُوا يَنْطِقُونَ
﴿۶۳﴾
'No, ' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak. ' (63)
فَرَجَعُوا إِلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ فَقَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ أَنْتُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ
﴿۶۴﴾
So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers! ' (64)
ثُمَّ نُكِسُوا عَلَى رُءُوسِهِمْ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا هَؤُلَاءِ يَنْطِقُونَ
﴿۶۵﴾
But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak. ' (65)
قَالَ أَفَتَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنْفَعُكُمْ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَضُرُّكُمْ
﴿۶۶﴾
He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? (66)
أُفٍّ لَكُمْ وَلِمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
﴿۶۷﴾
Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding? ' (67)
