بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
وَالْفَجْرِ
﴿۱﴾
Qarib: By the dawn
Sarwar: By the dawn, Shakir: I swear by the daybreak, Pickthall: By the Dawn Yusufali: By the break of Day
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
﴿۲﴾
Qarib: and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan),
Sarwar: by the Ten (secret) Nights, Shakir: And the ten nights, Pickthall: And ten nights, Yusufali: By the Nights twice five;
وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ
﴿۳﴾
Qarib: by the even, and the odd,
Sarwar: by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) Shakir: And the even and the odd, Pickthall: And the Even and the Odd, Yusufali: By the even and odd (contrasted);
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
﴿۴﴾
Qarib: by the night when it journeys on!
Sarwar: and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). Shakir: And the night when it departs Pickthall: And the night when it departeth, Yusufali: And by the Night when it passeth away;-
هَلْ فِي ذَلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِذِي حِجْرٍ
﴿۵﴾
Qarib: Is there in that an oath for the mindful?
Sarwar: Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? Shakir: Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding Pickthall: There surely is an oath for thinking man. Yusufali: Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand?
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
﴿۶﴾
Qarib: Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad?
Sarwar: (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, Shakir: Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, Pickthall: Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, Yusufali: Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),-
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ
﴿۷﴾
Qarib: of the columned (city) of Iram,
Sarwar: the people of the huge columned city of Eram Shakir: (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, Pickthall: With many-columned Iram, Yusufali: Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars,
الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ
﴿۸﴾
Qarib: the like of which was never created in the countries?
Sarwar: whose like has never been created in any other land. Shakir: The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; Pickthall: The like of which was not created in the lands; Yusufali: The like of which were not produced in (all) the land?
وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ
﴿۹﴾
Qarib: And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley?
Sarwar: (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. Shakir: And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, Pickthall: And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; Yusufali: And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?-
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ
﴿۱۰﴾
Qarib: And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)?
Sarwar: (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, Shakir: And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, Pickthall: And with Pharaoh, firm of might, Yusufali: And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? |
