Qarib: By the sky, and by the nightly comer!
Sarwar: By the heavens and al-tariq.
Shakir: I swear by the heaven and the comer by night;
Pickthall: By the heaven and the Morning Star
Yusufali: By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein);-
Qarib: What could let you know what the nightly comer is!
Sarwar: Do you know what al-tariq is?
Shakir: And what will make you know what the comer by night is?
Pickthall: - Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is!
Yusufali: And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?-
Qarib: (It is) the piercing star.
Sarwar: (It is a nightly radiant star).
Shakir: The star of piercing brightness;
Pickthall: - The piercing Star!
Yusufali: (It is) the Star of piercing brightness;-
Qarib: For every soul there is a watcher.
Sarwar: There is no soul which is not guarded (by the two angels who record all of its deeds).
Shakir: There is not a soul but over it is a keeper
Pickthall: No human soul but hath a guardian over it.
Yusufali: There is no soul but has a protector over it.
Qarib: Let the human reflect of what he is created.
Sarwar: Let the human being reflect that from what he has been created.
Shakir: So let man consider of what he is created:
Pickthall: So let man consider from what he is created.
Yusufali: Now let man but think from what he is created!
Qarib: He was created from ejaculated water
Sarwar: He has been created from an ejected drop of fluid
Shakir: He is created of water pouring forth,
Pickthall: He is created from a gushing fluid
Yusufali: He is created from a drop emitted-
Qarib: that issues from between the loins and the ribs.
Sarwar: which comes out of the loins and ribs.
Shakir: Coming from between the back and the ribs
Pickthall: That issued from between the loins and ribs.
Yusufali: Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs:
إِنَّهُ عَلَى رَجْعِهِ لَقَادِرٌ ﴿۸﴾
Qarib: Surely, He is Able to bring him back,
Sarwar: God has all power to resurrect him.
Shakir: Most surely He is able to return him (to life)
Pickthall: Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life)
Yusufali: Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)!
Qarib: on the Day when consciences are examined,
Sarwar: On the day when all secrets will be made public,
Shakir: On the day when hidden things shall be made manifest,
Pickthall: On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out.
Yusufali: The Day that (all) things secret will be tested,
Qarib: when he will be helpless, with no supporter.
Sarwar: he will have no power, nor anyone to help him.
Shakir: He shall have neither strength nor helper
Pickthall: Then will he have no might nor any helper.
Yusufali: (Man) will have no power, and no helper.
