Sura 81: AT-TAKWIR (THE OVERTHROWING) - Juz' 30

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ ﴿۱﴾
Qarib: When the sun is woundup;
Sarwar: (On the day) when the sun is made to cease shining,
Shakir: When the sun is covered,
Pickthall: When the sun is overthrown,
Yusufali: When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up;
وَإِذَا النُّجُومُ انْكَدَرَتْ ﴿۲﴾
Qarib: when the stars are thrown down,
Sarwar: the stars are made to fade away,
Shakir: And when the stars darken,
Pickthall: And when the stars fall,
Yusufali: When the stars fall, losing their lustre;
وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ ﴿۳﴾
Qarib: and the mountains have been taken,
Sarwar: the mountains are scattered about as dust,
Shakir: And when the mountains are made to pass away,
Pickthall: And when the hills are moved,
Yusufali: When the mountains vanish (like a mirage);
وَإِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ ﴿۴﴾
Qarib: when the pregnant camels are neglected,
Sarwar: the young barren camels are abandoned,
Shakir: And when the camels are left untended,
Pickthall: And when the camels big with young are abandoned,
Yusufali: When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended;
وَإِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ ﴿۵﴾
Qarib: when the savage beasts are gathered
Sarwar: the wild beasts are herded together,
Shakir: And when the wild animals are made to go forth,
Pickthall: And when the wild beasts are herded together,
Yusufali: When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations);
وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ ﴿۶﴾
Qarib: when the seas are set boiling,
Sarwar: the oceans are brought to a boil,
Shakir: And when the seas are set on fire,
Pickthall: And when the seas rise,
Yusufali: When the oceans boil over with a swell;
وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ ﴿۷﴾
Qarib: when the souls are coupled (to their body),
Sarwar: souls are reunited with their bodies,
Shakir: And when souls are united,
Pickthall: And when souls are reunited,
Yusufali: When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like);
وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ ﴿۸﴾
Qarib: when the buried female infant is asked
Sarwar: questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive,
Shakir: And when the female infant buried alive is asked
Pickthall: And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked
Yusufali: When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned -
بِأَيِّ ذَنْبٍ قُتِلَتْ ﴿۹﴾
Qarib: for what crime she was slain,
Sarwar: such as, "For what crime were they murdered?"
Shakir: For what sin she was killed,
Pickthall: For what sin she was slain,
Yusufali: For what crime she was killed;
وَإِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ ﴿۱۰﴾
Qarib: when the scrolls are unrolled,
Sarwar: the records of deeds are made public,
Shakir: And when the books are spread,
Pickthall: And when the pages are laid open,
Yusufali: When the scrolls are laid open;
وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ كُشِطَتْ ﴿۱۱﴾
Qarib: when heaven is stripped,
Sarwar: the heavens are unveiled,
Shakir: And when the heaven has its covering removed,
Pickthall: And when the sky is torn away,
Yusufali: When the world on High is unveiled;
وَإِذَا الْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ ﴿۱۲﴾
Qarib: when Hell is set ablaze,
Sarwar: hell is made to blaze,
Shakir: And when the hell is kindled up,
Pickthall: And when hell is lighted,
Yusufali: When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat;
وَإِذَا الْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ ﴿۱۳﴾
Qarib: when Paradise is brought near,
Sarwar: and Paradise is brought near,
Shakir: And when the garden is brought nigh,
Pickthall: And when the Garden is brought nigh,
Yusufali: And when the Garden is brought near;-
عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَا أَحْضَرَتْ ﴿۱۴﴾
Qarib: then, each soul shall know what it has produced.
Sarwar: then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds.
Shakir: Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared
Pickthall: (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready.
Yusufali: (Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward.
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ ﴿۱۵﴾
Qarib: Rather, I swear by the returning
Sarwar: I do not need to swear by the orbiting
Shakir: But nay! I swear by the stars,
Pickthall: Oh, but I call to witness the planets,
Yusufali: So verily I call to witness the planets - that recede,
الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ ﴿۱۶﴾
Qarib: orbiting, disappearing;
Sarwar: stars which are visible during the night
Shakir: That run their course (and) hide themselves,
Pickthall: The stars which rise and set,
Yusufali: Go straight, or hide;
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ ﴿۱۷﴾
Qarib: by the night when it approaches
Sarwar: and sit during the day, or by the darkening night
Shakir: And the night when it departs,
Pickthall: And the close of night,
Yusufali: And the Night as it dissipates;
وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ ﴿۱۸﴾
Qarib: and the morning when it extends,
Sarwar: and brightening morning,
Shakir: And the morning when it brightens,
Pickthall: And the breath of morning
Yusufali: And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;-
إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ ﴿۱۹﴾
Qarib: it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger,
Sarwar: that the Quran is the word of the honorable angelic, mighty Messenger
Shakir: Most surely it is the Word of an honored messenger,
Pickthall: That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger,
Yusufali: Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger,
ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِنْدَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ ﴿۲۰﴾
Qarib: of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne
Sarwar: who is honored in the presence of the Lord of the Throne,
Shakir: The processor of strength, having an honorable place with the Lord of the Dominion,
Pickthall: Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne,
Yusufali: Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne,
مُطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ ﴿۲۱﴾
Qarib: obeyed, and honest.
Sarwar: obeyed by (all creatures) and faithful to His trust.
Shakir: One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust
Pickthall: (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy;
Yusufali: With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust.
وَمَا صَاحِبُكُمْ بِمَجْنُونٍ ﴿۲۲﴾
Qarib: Your Companion is not mad,
Sarwar: Your companion (Muhammad) does not suffer from any mental illness
Shakir: And your companion is not gone mad
Pickthall: And your comrade is not mad.
Yusufali: And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed;
وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ ﴿۲۳﴾
Qarib: in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon,
Sarwar: He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form
Shakir: And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon
Pickthall: Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon.
Yusufali: And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon.
وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ ﴿۲۴﴾
Qarib: he is not grudging of the Unseen.
Sarwar: He (Muhammad) is not accused of lying about the unseen.
Shakir: Nor of the unseen is he a tenacious concealer
Pickthall: And he is not avid of the Unseen.
Yusufali: Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen.
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَانٍ رَجِيمٍ ﴿۲۵﴾
Qarib: Nor is this the word of a stoned satan.
Sarwar: The Quran is not the word of condemned satan.
Shakir: Nor is it the word of the cursed Shaitan,
Pickthall: Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned.
Yusufali: Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed.
فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ ﴿۲۶﴾
Qarib: Where then are you going?
Sarwar: Where then will you go?
Shakir: Whither then will you go?
Pickthall: Whither then go ye?
Yusufali: When whither go ye?
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ ﴿۲۷﴾
Qarib: This is nothing but a Reminder to the worlds,
Sarwar: This is certainly the guidance for all (jinn and mankind).
Shakir: It is naught but a reminder for the nations,
Pickthall: This is naught else than a reminder unto creation,
Yusufali: Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds:
لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَسْتَقِيمَ ﴿۲۸﴾
Qarib: for whosoever of you would go straight,
Sarwar: So let those who want, choose the right guidance
Shakir: For him among you who pleases to go straight
Pickthall: Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight.
Yusufali: (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight:
وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ ﴿۲۹﴾
Qarib: but you shall not, unless Allah wills, the Lord of all the Worlds.
Sarwar: However, you will not be able to choose anything unless God, Lord of the Universe wills it to be so.
Shakir: And you do not please except that Allah please, the Lord of the worlds
Pickthall: And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation.
Yusufali: But ye shall not will except as Allah wills,- the Cherisher of the Worlds.
