﴿۱﴾
Qarib: Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing.
Sarwar: There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. Shakir: There surely came over man a period of time when he was a thing not worth mentioning Pickthall: Hath there come upon man (ever) any period of time in which he was a thing unremembered? Yusufali: Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned?
﴿۲﴾
Qarib: We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see.
Sarwar: We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. Shakir: Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing Pickthall: Lo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing. Yusufali: Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight.

Sarwar: We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. Shakir: Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful Pickthall: Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. Yusufali: We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will).
