﴿۱﴾
Qarib: Noon. By the Pen and that (the angels) write,
Sarwar: Nun. By the pen and by what you write, Shakir: Noon. I swear by the pen and what the angels write, Pickthall: Nun. By the pen and that which they write (therewith), Yusufali: Nun. By the Pen and the (Record) which (men) write,-
﴿۲﴾
Qarib: you are not, because of the favor of your Lord, mad.
Sarwar: (Muhammad), you are not insane, thanks to the bounty of your Lord. Shakir: By the grace of your Lord you are not mad Pickthall: Thou art not, for thy Lord's favour unto thee, a madman. Yusufali: Thou art not, by the Grace of thy Lord, mad or possessed.
﴿۳﴾
Qarib: Indeed, there is an unfailing wage for you.
Sarwar: You will certainly receive a never-ending reward. Shakir: And most surely you shall have a reward never to be cut off Pickthall: And lo! thine verily will be a reward unfailing. Yusufali: Nay, verily for thee is a Reward unfailing:
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَى خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
﴿۴﴾
Qarib: Surely, you (Prophet Muhammad) are of a great morality.
Sarwar: You have attained a high moral standard. Shakir: And most surely you conform (yourself) to sublime morality Pickthall: And lo! thou art of a tremendous nature. Yusufali: And thou (standest) on an exalted standard of character.
﴿۵﴾
Qarib: You shall see and they will see
Sarwar: You will see and they will also see Shakir: So you shall see, and they (too) shall see, Pickthall: And thou wilt see and they will see Yusufali: Soon wilt thou see, and they will see,
﴿۶﴾
Qarib: which of you is the demented.
Sarwar: which of you has been afflicted by insanity. Shakir: Which of you is afflicted with madness Pickthall: Which of you is the demented. Yusufali: Which of you is afflicted with madness.
﴿۷﴾
Qarib: Indeed, your Lord knows very well those who strayed from His Path, and those who are guided.
Sarwar: Your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His path and who is rightly guided. Shakir: Surely your Lord best knows him who errs from His way, and He best knows the followers of the right course Pickthall: Lo! thy Lord is Best Aware of him who strayeth from His way, and He is Best Aware of those who walk aright. Yusufali: Verily it is thy Lord that knoweth best, which (among men) hath strayed from His Path: and He knoweth best those who receive (true) Guidance.
﴿۸﴾
Qarib: Therefore, do not obey those who belie,
Sarwar: Do not yield to those who reject the Truth. Shakir: So do not yield to the rejecters Pickthall: Therefor obey not thou the rejecters Yusufali: So hearken not to those who deny (the Truth).
﴿۹﴾
Qarib: they wish you would compromise, then, they would compromise.
Sarwar: They would like you to relent to them so that they could also relent towards you. Shakir: They wish that you should be pliant so they (too) would be pliant Pickthall: Who would have had thee compromise, that they may compromise. Yusufali: Their desire is that thou shouldst be pliant: so would they be pliant.
Qarib: And do not obey every mean swearer,
Sarwar: Do not yield to one persistent in swearing, Shakir: And yield not to any mean swearer Pickthall: Neither obey thou each feeble oath-monger, Yusufali: Heed not the type of despicable men,- ready with oaths, |
