Sura 26: AL-SHUARA (THE POETS) - Juz' 19

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Qarib: TaSeenMeem.
Sarwar: Ta. Sin. Mim.
Shakir: Ta Sin Mim
Pickthall: Ta. Sin. Mim.
Yusufali: Ta. Sin. Mim.
Qarib: Those are the verses of the clear Book.
Sarwar: These are the verses of the illustrious Book.
Shakir: These are the verses of the Book that makes (things) clear
Pickthall: These are revelations of the Scripture that maketh plain.
Yusufali: These are verses of the Book that makes (things) clear.
Qarib: Perhaps you consume yourself that they are not believers.
Sarwar: You will perhaps kill yourself with anguish because they are not accepting the faith.
Shakir: Perhaps you will kill yourself with grief because they do not believe
Pickthall: It may be that thou tormentest thyself (O Muhammad) because they believe not.
Yusufali: It may be thou frettest thy soul with grief, that they do not become Believers.
Qarib: If We will, We can send down on them a sign from heaven before which their necks will remain humbled.
Sarwar: Had We wanted, We would have sent them a miracle from the sky to make their heads hang down in submission.
Shakir: If We please, We should send down upon them a sign from the heaven so that their necks should stoop to it
Pickthall: If We will, We can send down on them from the sky a portent so that their necks would remain bowed before it.
Yusufali: If (such) were Our Will, We could send down to them from the sky a Sign, to which they would bend their necks in humility.
Qarib: A fresh remembrance has never come to them from the Merciful, except they turn away from it.
Sarwar: Whenever a new message comes to them from the Beneficent God, they turn away from it.
Shakir: And there does not come to them a new reminder from the Beneficent Allah but they turn aside from it
Pickthall: Never cometh there unto them a fresh reminder from the Beneficent One, but they turn away from it.
Yusufali: But there comes not to them a newly-revealed Message from (Allah) Most Gracious, but they turn away therefrom.
Qarib: So, they belied, but surely the tidings of that they mocked will come to them.
Sarwar: They have called (our revelation) lies. They will soon learn the consequences of what they mocked.
Shakir: So they have indeed rejected (the truth), therefore the news of that which they mock shall soon come to them
Pickthall: Now they have denied (the Truth); but there will come unto them tidings of that whereat they used to scoff.
Yusufali: They have indeed rejected (the Message): so they will know soon (enough) the truth of what they mocked at!
Qarib: Have they not seen the earth, how many We caused to grow in it every generous kind?
Sarwar: Have they not seen the earth in which We have made gracious plants grow?
Shakir: Do they not see the earth, how many of every noble kind We have caused to grow in it?
Pickthall: Have they not seen the earth, how much of every fruitful kind We make to grow therein?
Yusufali: Do they not look at the earth,- how many noble things of all kinds We have produced therein?
Qarib: Surely, in this there is a sign yet most of them do not believe.
Sarwar: In this there is, certainly, evidence (of the Truth). But most of them have no faith.
Shakir: Most surely there is a sign in that, but most of them will not believe
Pickthall: Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers.
Yusufali: Verily, in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.
Qarib: Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful.
Sarwar: Your Lord is the Majestic and the All-merciful.
Shakir: And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful
Pickthall: And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Yusufali: And verily, thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.
Qarib: And when your Lord called to Moses, saying: 'Go to the harmdoing nation,
Sarwar: When Your Lord told Moses to go to the unjust people of the Pharaoh
Shakir: And when your Lord called out to Musa, saying: Go to the unjust people,
Pickthall: And when thy Lord called Moses, saying: Go unto the wrongdoing folk,
Yusufali: Behold, thy Lord called Moses: "Go to the people of iniquity,-
Qarib: the nation of Pharaoh. Will they not fear Me? '
Sarwar: and ask them, "Why do you not fear God?"
Shakir: The people of Firon: Will they not guard (against evil)?
Pickthall: The folk of Pharaoh. Will they not ward off (evil)?
Yusufali: "The people of the Pharaoh: will they not fear Allah?"
Qarib: 'My Lord, ' he replied, 'I fear they will belie me
Sarwar: He replied, "Lord, I am afraid that they will call me a liar.
Shakir: He said: O my Lord! surely I fear that they will reject me;
Pickthall: He said: My Lord! Lo! I fear that they will deny me,
Yusufali: He said: "O my Lord! I do fear that they will charge me with falsehood:
وَيَضِيقُ صَدْرِي وَلَا يَنْطَلِقُ لِسَانِي فَأَرْسِلْ إِلَى هَارُونَ ﴿۱۳﴾
Qarib: and my chest will become constricted and my tongue will not be loosed (in my speech), therefore, send to Aaron.
Sarwar: I feel nervous and my tongue is not fluent, so send Aaron with me.
Shakir: And by breast straitens, and my tongue is not eloquent, therefore send Thou to Haroun (to help me);
Pickthall: And I shall be embarrassed, and my tongue will not speak plainly, therefor send for Aaron (to help me).
Yusufali: "My breast will be straitened. And my speech may not go (smoothly): so send unto Aaron.
Qarib: They hold a sin against me, and I fear that they will kill me. '
Sarwar: They have charged me [with a crime] for which I am afraid they will kill me."
Shakir: And they have a crime against me, therefore I fear that they may slay me
Pickthall: And they have a crime against me, so I fear that they will kill me.
Yusufali: "And (further), they have a charge of crime against me; and I fear they may slay me."
Qarib: He said: 'Never so, go both of you with Our signs; We shall be with you, listening
Sarwar: The Lord said, "Have no fear, both of you go with Our miracles. We shall closely listen to you."
Shakir: He said: By no means, so go you both with Our signs; surely We are with you, hearing;
Pickthall: He said: Nay, verily. So go ye twain with Our tokens. Lo! We shall be with you, Hearing.
Yusufali: Allah said: "By no means! proceed then, both of you, with Our Signs; We are with you, and will listen (to your call).
Qarib: go both to Pharaoh and both of you say to him: 'We are (each) a Messenger from the Lord of all the Worlds.
Sarwar: They came to the Pharaoh and said, "We are the Messengerss of the Lord of the Universe.
Shakir: Then come to Firon and say: Surely we are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds:
Pickthall: And come together unto Pharaoh and say: Lo! we bear a message of the Lord of the Worlds,
Yusufali: "So go forth, both of you, to Pharaoh, and say: 'We have been sent by the Lord and Cherisher of the worlds;
Qarib: Send forth with us the Children of Israel. '
Sarwar: Send the Israelites with us".
Shakir: Then send with us the children of Israel
Pickthall: (Saying): Let the Children of Israel go with us.
Yusufali: "'Send thou with us the Children of Israel.'"
Qarib: He (Pharaoh) said (to Moses): 'Did We not bring you up when you were a child? And have you not spent years of your life amongst us?
Sarwar: The Pharaoh said, "Did we not bring you up in our home as an infant and did you not live with us for many years
Shakir: (Firon) said: Did we not bring you up as a child among us, and you tarried among us for (many) years of your life?
Pickthall: (Pharaoh) said (unto Moses): Did we not rear thee among us as a child? And thou didst dwell many years of thy life among us,
Yusufali: (Pharaoh) said: "Did we not cherish thee as a child among us, and didst thou not stay in our midst many years of thy life?
Qarib: Yet you were ungrateful and have done the deed you did. '
Sarwar: and you did the deed which you did. You are certainly ungrateful."
Shakir: And you did (that) deed of yours which you did, and you are one of the ungrateful
Pickthall: And thou didst that thy deed which thou didst, and thou wast one of the ingrates.
Yusufali: "And thou didst a deed of thine which (thou knowest) thou didst, and thou art an ungrateful (wretch)!"
Qarib: He (Moses) replied: 'Indeed, I did that when I was among those who stray.
Sarwar: Moses said, "I did do it and I made a mistake.
Shakir: He said: I did it then while I was of those unable to see the right course;
Pickthall: He said: I did it then, when I was of those who are astray.
Yusufali: Moses said: "I did it then, when I was in error.
Qarib: I fled from you because I feared you. But my Lord has given me judgment and made me one of the Messengers.
Sarwar: Then I ran away from you in fear, but my Lord granted me the law and has appointed me as a Messenger.
Shakir: So I fled from you when I feared you, then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me of the messengers;
Pickthall: Then I fled from you when I feared you, and my Lord vouchsafed me a command and appointed me (of the number) of those sent (by Him).
Yusufali: "So I fled from you (all) when I feared you; but my Lord has (since) invested me with judgment (and wisdom) and appointed me as one of the messengers.
Qarib: Is this then the blessing with which you reproach me, that you have the Children of Israel for worshipers! '
Sarwar: And this is the favor with which you oblige me: You have made the Israelites your slaves.
Shakir: And is it a favor of which you remind me that you have enslaved the children of Israel?
Pickthall: And this is the past favour wherewith thou reproachest me: that thou hast enslaved the Children of Israel.
Yusufali: "And this is the favour with which thou dost reproach me,- that thou hast enslaved the Children of Israel!"
Qarib: Pharaoh said: 'And what is the Lord of the Worlds? '
Sarwar: The Pharaoh asked, "Who is the Lord of the Universe?"
Shakir: Firon said: And what is the Lord of the worlds?
Pickthall: Pharaoh said: And what is the Lord of the Worlds?
Yusufali: Pharaoh said: "And what is the 'Lord and Cherisher of the worlds'?"
Qarib: 'He' (Moses) replied: 'is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you believe! '
Sarwar: Moses replied, "The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you want to be certain".
Shakir: He said: The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure
Pickthall: (Moses) said: Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye had but sure belief.
Yusufali: (Moses) said: "The Lord and Cherisher of the heavens and the earth, and all between,- if ye want to be quite sure."
Qarib: 'Do you not hear? ' said he (Pharaoh) to those around him.
Sarwar: The Pharaoh said to the people around him, "Did you hear that?"
Shakir: (Firon) said to those around him: Do you not hear?
Pickthall: (Pharaoh) said unto those around him: Hear ye not?
Yusufali: (Pharaoh) said to those around: "Did ye not listen (to what he says)?"
Qarib: He said, 'Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. '
Sarwar: Moses continued, "He is the Lord and the Lord of your forefathers."
Shakir: He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old
Pickthall: He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers.
Yusufali: (Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers from the beginning!"
Qarib: (Pharaoh) said: 'Surely, the Messenger who has been sent to you is mad!'
Sarwar: The Pharaoh said, "The Messengers who has been sent to you is certainly insane".
Shakir: Said he: Most surely your Messenger who is sent to you is mad
Pickthall: (Pharaoh) said: Lo! your messenger who hath been sent unto you is indeed a madman!
Yusufali: (Pharaoh) said: "Truly your messenger who has been sent to you is a veritable madman!"
Qarib: 'He is the Lord of the East and the West, ' said he (Moses), 'and all that is between them, if you could understand! '
Sarwar: Moses continued, "He is the Lord of the East and West and all that is between them, if only you would think".
Shakir: He said: The Lord of the east and the west and what is between them, if you understand
Pickthall: He said: Lord of the East and the West and all that is between them, if ye did but understand.
Yusufali: (Moses) said: "Lord of the East and the West, and all between! if ye only had sense!"
Qarib: 'If you take any other god except myself, ' he (Pharaoh) replied, 'you shall be thrown into prison. '
Sarwar: Pharaoh said, "If you put forward any god other than me, I will surely put you in prison".
Shakir: Said he: If you will take a god besides me, I will most certainly make you one of the imprisoned
Pickthall: (Pharaoh) said: If thou choosest a god other than me, I assuredly shall place thee among the prisoners.
Yusufali: (Pharaoh) said: "If thou dost put forward any god other than me, I will certainly put thee in prison!"
Qarib: 'What, even if I brought you something clear, ' said he (Moses).
Sarwar: Moses asked, "What if I were to bring you clear proof (of the existence of God)?"
Shakir: He said: What! even if I bring to you something manifest?
Pickthall: He said: Even though I show thee something plain?
Yusufali: (Moses) said: "Even if I showed you something clear (and) convincing?"
Qarib: He (Pharaoh) replied: 'Show us your sign, if you are of the truthful. '
Sarwar: The Pharaoh replied, "Bring it, if you are telling the truth."
Shakir: Said he: Bring it then, if you are of the truthful ones
Pickthall: (Pharaoh) said: Produce it then, if thou art of the truthful!
Yusufali: (Pharaoh) said: "Show it then, if thou tellest the truth!"
Qarib: He cast down his staff and thereupon it was a clear serpent.
Sarwar: Moses threw his staff and suddenly it became a serpent.
Shakir: So he cast down his rod, and lo! it was an obvious serpent,
Pickthall: Then he flung down his staff and it became a serpent manifest,
Yusufali: So (Moses) threw his rod, and behold, it was a serpent, plain (for all to see)!
Qarib: Then he drew out his hand, and it was luminous to the onlookers.
Sarwar: Then he uncovered his hand and it was sheer white to the onlookers.
Shakir: And he drew forth his hand, and lo! it appeared white to the onlookers
Pickthall: And he drew forth his hand and lo! it was white to the beholders.
Yusufali: And he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to all beholders!
Qarib: 'This', said he (Pharaoh) to his Council, 'is a cunning sorcerer
Sarwar: The Pharaoh said to the people around him, "He is certainly a skillful magician.
Shakir: (Firon) said to the chiefs around him: Most surely this is a skillful magician,
Pickthall: (Pharaoh) said unto the chiefs about him: Lo! this is verily a knowing wizard,
Yusufali: (Pharaoh) said to the Chiefs around him: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed:
يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُخْرِجَكُمْ مِنْ أَرْضِكُمْ بِسِحْرِهِ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ ﴿۳۵﴾
Qarib: who seeks to expel you from your land by his sorcery. What is your counsel? '
Sarwar: He wants to expel you from your land through his magic. What is your opinion?"
Shakir: Who desires to turn you out of your land with his magic; what is it then that you advise?
Pickthall: Who would drive you out of your land by his magic. Now what counsel ye?
Yusufali: "His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel?"
Qarib: They replied: 'Put him and his brother off for a while, and send heralds to your cities
Sarwar: They said, "Hold him and his brother off for a while
Shakir: They said: Give him and his brother respite and send heralds into the cities
Pickthall: They said: Put him off, (him) and his brother, and send into the cities summoners
Yusufali: They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while), and dispatch to the Cities heralds to collect-
Qarib: to bring every knowledgeable sorcerer. '
Sarwar: and summon every skillful magician from all the cities."
Shakir: That they should bring to you every skillful magician
Pickthall: Who shall bring unto thee every knowing wizard.
Yusufali: "And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed."
Qarib: The sorcerers were gathered at the appointed time on a wellknown day,
Sarwar: So all the magicians gathered together
Shakir: So the magicians were gathered together at the appointed time on the fixed day,
Pickthall: So the wizards were gathered together at a set time on a day appointed.
Yusufali: So the sorcerers were got together for the appointment of a day well-known,
Qarib: and the people were asked: 'Will you gather
Sarwar: at the appointed time
Shakir: And it was said to the people: Will you gather together?
Pickthall: And it was said unto the people: Are ye (also) gathering?
Yusufali: And the people were told: "Are ye (now) assembled?-
Qarib: in order that we shall follow the sorcerers if they are the victors. '
Sarwar: and the people were asked, "Will you all be there so that we may follow the magicians if they become victorious?"
Shakir: Haply we may follow the magicians, if they are the vanquishers
Pickthall: (They said): Aye, so that we may follow the wizards if they are the winners.
Yusufali: "That we may follow the sorcerers (in religion) if they win?"
Qarib: Then, when the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, they said: 'Shall we receive a wage if we win? '
Sarwar: When the magicians came, they asked the Pharaoh, "Will there be any reward for us if we win?"
Shakir: And when the magicians came, they said to Firon: Shall we get a reward if we are the vanquishers?
Pickthall: And when the wizards came they said unto Pharaoh: Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners?
Yusufali: So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Pharaoh: "Of course - shall we have a (suitable) reward if we win?
Qarib: 'Yes, indeed' he answered, 'and you shall become among those who are near stationed. '
Sarwar: He replied, "You will then be my closest associates".
Shakir: He said: Yes, and surely you will then be of those who are made near
Pickthall: He said: Aye, and ye will then surely be of those brought near (to me).
Yusufali: He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)."
Qarib: Moses said to them: 'Cast down what you cast. '
Sarwar: (Moses) asked the magicians, "Cast down what you want to".
Shakir: Musa said to them: Cast what you are going to cast
Pickthall: Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw!
Yusufali: Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!"
Qarib: So they cast their ropes and staffs, saying: 'By Pharaoh's might, we shall be the victors. '
Sarwar: So they cast down their ropes and staffs saying, "By the honor of the Pharaoh we shall certainly become the winners".
Shakir: So they cast down their cords and their rods and said: By Firon's power, we shall most surely be victorious
Pickthall: Then they threw down their cords and their staves and said: By Pharaoh's might, lo! we verily are the winners.
Yusufali: So they threw their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the might of Pharaoh, it is we who will certainly win!"
Qarib: Then Moses cast down his staff and it swallowed up their lying invention,
Sarwar: Then Moses cast down his staff and suddenly it swallowed up what they had falsely invented.
Shakir: Then Musa cast down his staff and lo! it swallowed up the lies they told
Pickthall: Then Moses threw his staff and lo! it swallowed that which they did falsely show.
Yusufali: Then Moses threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake!
Qarib: so the sorcerers were cast down, prostrating themselves,
Sarwar: The magicians fell down in adoration
Shakir: And the magicians were thrown down prostrate;
Pickthall: And the wizards were flung prostrate,
Yusufali: Then did the sorcerers fall down, prostrate in adoration,
Qarib: saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,
Sarwar: saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe
Shakir: They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds:
Pickthall: Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,
Yusufali: Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,
Qarib: the Lord of Moses and Aaron. '
Sarwar: and the Lord of Moses and Aaron."
Shakir: The Lord of Musa and Haroun
Pickthall: The Lord of Moses and Aaron.
Yusufali: "The Lord of Moses and Aaron."
Qarib: He (Pharaoh) said: 'You have believed him before I have given you permission. He is the chief of you who has taught you sorcery. But you shall know. I will surely cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and crucify you all.'
Sarwar: The Pharaoh said, "You believed without my permission? He seems to be your chief who has taught you magic. But you will soon know (the result of what you have done).
Shakir: Said he: You believe in him before I give you permission; most surely he is the chief of you who taught you the magic, so you shall know: certainly I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and certainly I will crucify you all
Pickthall: (Pharaoh) said: Ye put your faith in him before I give you leave. Lo! he doubtless is your chief who taught you magic! But verily ye shall come to know. Verily I will cut off your hands and your feet alternately, and verily I will crucify you every one.
Yusufali: Said (Pharaoh): "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? surely he is your leader, who has taught you sorcery! but soon shall ye know! Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross!"
Qarib: 'There is no harm, ' they replied, 'for surely to our Lord we are turning.
Sarwar: I shall certainly cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and crucify you all together."
Shakir: They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we go back;
Pickthall: They said: It is no hurt, for lo! unto our Lord we shall return.
Yusufali: They said: "No matter! for us, we shall but return to our Lord!
Qarib: We are eager that Our Lord should forgive us our offenses, for we are the first of the believers. '
Sarwar: They said, "It does not matter. We shall be returning to our Lord.
Shakir: Surely we hope that our Lord will forgive us our wrongs because we are the first of the believers
Pickthall: Lo! we ardently hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we are the first of the believers.
Yusufali: "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!"
Qarib: Also, We revealed to Moses, saying: 'Go with My worshipers by night, for you will be followed. '
Sarwar: We hope that our Lord will forgive us for our sins; we were not believers at first."
Shakir: And We revealed to Musa, saying: Go away with My servants travelling by night, surely you will be pursued
Pickthall: And We inspired Moses, saying: Take away My slaves by night, for ye will be pursued.
Yusufali: By inspiration we told Moses: "Travel by night with my servants; for surely ye shall be pursued."
Qarib: Then Pharaoh sent gatherers to the cities.
Sarwar: We sent a revelation to Moses telling him to leave with our servants during the night; they would be pursued (by the Pharaoh).
Shakir: So Firon sent heralds into the cities;
Pickthall: Then Pharaoh sent into the cities summoners,
Yusufali: Then Pharaoh sent heralds to (all) the Cities,
Qarib: 'These, ' they said, 'are a small band,
Sarwar: The Pharaoh sent word to all the cities saying,
Shakir: Most surely these are a small company;
Pickthall: (Who said): Lo! these indeed are but a little troop,
Yusufali: (Saying): "These (Israelites) are but a small band,
Qarib: they have enraged us,
Sarwar: "There is a small group of people
Shakir: And most surely they have enraged us;
Pickthall: And lo! they are offenders against us.
Yusufali: "And they are raging furiously against us;
Qarib: and we are a host on our guard. '
Sarwar: who have enraged us greatly.
Shakir: And most surely we are a vigilant multitude
Pickthall: And lo! we are a ready host.
Yusufali: "But we are a multitude amply fore-warned."
Qarib: As such We expelled them from their gardens and their fountains,
Sarwar: We are warning all of you about them."
Shakir: So We turned them out of gardens and springs,
Pickthall: Thus did We take them away from gardens and watersprings,
Yusufali: So We expelled them from gardens, springs,
Qarib: their treasures and a noble station.
Sarwar: We deprived them (the unbelievers) of gardens, springs,
Shakir: And treasures and goodly dwellings,
Pickthall: And treasures and a fair estate.
Yusufali: Treasures, and every kind of honourable position;
Qarib: As such we gave it to the Children of Israel.
Sarwar: treasures, and graceful dwellings.
Shakir: Even so. And We gave them as a heritage to the children of Israel
Pickthall: Thus (were those things taken from them) and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit them.
Yusufali: Thus it was, but We made the Children of Israel inheritors of such things.
Qarib: At sunrise, they followed them.
Sarwar: Thus we let the Israelites inherit them all.
Shakir: Then they pursued them at sunrise
Pickthall: And they overtook them at sunrise.
Yusufali: So they pursued them at sunrise.
Qarib: And when the two hosts came in view of each other, Moses' companions said: 'We have been reached! '
Sarwar: The people of the Pharaoh pursued them at sunrise.
Shakir: So when the two hosts saw each other, the companions of Musa cried out: Most surely we are being overtaken
Pickthall: And when the two hosts saw each other, those with Moses said: Lo! we are indeed caught.
Yusufali: And when the two bodies saw each other, the people of Moses said: "We are sure to be overtaken."
Qarib: 'No, indeed' he replied, 'my Lord is with me and He will guide me. '
Sarwar: When the two groups came close to each other, the companions of Moses said, "We will be caught".
Shakir: He said: By no means; surely my Lord is with me: He will show me a way out
Pickthall: He said: Nay, verily! for lo! my Lord is with me. He will guide me.
Yusufali: (Moses) said: "By no means! my Lord is with me! Soon will He guide me!"
Qarib: Then We revealed to Moses: 'Strike the sea with your staff', so it divided and each part was as a mighty mount.
Sarwar: Moses said, "Certainly not. My Lord is with me and He will certainly guide me."
Shakir: Then We revealed to Musa: Strike the sea with your staff. So it had cloven asunder, and each part was like a huge mound
Pickthall: Then We inspired Moses, saying: Smite the sea with thy staff. And it parted, and each part was as a mountain vast.
Yusufali: Then We told Moses by inspiration: "Strike the sea with thy rod." So it divided, and each separate part became like the huge, firm mass of a mountain.
Qarib: And there We brought the others on,
Sarwar: We sent a revelation to Moses saying, "Strike the sea with your staff." The sea was rent asunder and each side stood high up like a huge mountain.
Shakir: And We brought near, there, the others
Pickthall: Then brought We near the others to that place.
Yusufali: And We made the other party approach thither.
Qarib: and We saved Moses and those who were with him together,
Sarwar: Then We brought the two parties closer.
Shakir: And We saved Musa and those with him, all of them
Pickthall: And We saved Moses and those with him, every one;
Yusufali: We delivered Moses and all who were with him;
Qarib: then, We drowned the others.
Sarwar: We saved Moses and all the people with him
Shakir: Then We drowned the others
Pickthall: And We drowned the others.
Yusufali: But We drowned the others.
Qarib: Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe.
Sarwar: and drowned the other party.
Shakir: Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe
Pickthall: Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.
Yusufali: Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.
Qarib: Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful.
Sarwar: In this there was certainly evidence (of the Truth), but most of them did not have any faith.
Shakir: And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful
Pickthall: And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Yusufali: And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.
Qarib: And recite to them the news of Abraham.
Sarwar: Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful.
Shakir: And recite to them the story of Ibrahim
Pickthall: Recite unto them the story of Abraham:
Yusufali: And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story.
Qarib: He said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship? '
Sarwar: Tell them the story of Abraham,
Shakir: When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship?
Pickthall: When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye?
Yusufali: Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?"
Qarib: They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them. '
Sarwar: when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?"
Shakir: They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries
Pickthall: They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them.
Yusufali: They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them."
Qarib: 'Do they hear you when you call on them? ' He asked.
Sarwar: They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them".
Shakir: He said: Do they hear you when you call?
Pickthall: He said: Do they hear you when ye cry?
Yusufali: He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?"
Qarib: 'Can they benefit you or harm you? '
Sarwar: He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them
Shakir: Or do they profit you or cause you harm?
Pickthall: Or do they benefit or harm you?
Yusufali: "Or do you good or harm?"
Qarib: They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so. '
Sarwar: or can they benefit or harm you?"
Shakir: They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so
Pickthall: They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise.
Yusufali: They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)."
Qarib: He said: 'Have you considered what you worship,
Sarwar: They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them."
Shakir: He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping:
Pickthall: He said: See now that which ye worship,
Yusufali: He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,-
Qarib: you, and your elderly fathers?
Sarwar: (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship and what your grandfathers worshipped
Shakir: You and your ancient sires
Pickthall: Ye and your forefathers!
Yusufali: "Ye and your fathers before you?-
Qarib: They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds
Sarwar: are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe.
Shakir: Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds;
Pickthall: Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds,
Yusufali: "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds;
Qarib: who created me; and He guides me,
Sarwar: He created me and He will guide me.
Shakir: Who created me, then He has shown me the way:
Pickthall: Who created me, and He doth guide me,
Yusufali: "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me;
Qarib: and He gives me to eat and drink,
Sarwar: It is He who gives me food and drink
Shakir: And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink:
Pickthall: And Who feedeth me and watereth me.
Yusufali: "Who gives me food and drink,
Qarib: who, when I am sick, heals me;
Sarwar: and heals me when I am sick.
Shakir: And when I am sick, then He restores me to health
Pickthall: And when I sicken, then He healeth me,
Yusufali: "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me;
Qarib: who makes me to die and then revives me,
Sarwar: He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life.
Shakir: And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life;
Pickthall: And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again),
Yusufali: "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again);
Qarib: and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense. '
Sarwar: It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment.
Shakir: And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment
Pickthall: And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment.
Yusufali: "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment.
Qarib: My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous.
Sarwar: Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones.
Shakir: My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good
Pickthall: My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous.
Yusufali: "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous;
Qarib: And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter.
Sarwar: Make my words come true in the future.
Shakir: And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity
Pickthall: And give unto me a good report in later generations.
Yusufali: "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations);
Qarib: and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss.
Sarwar: Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise.
Shakir: And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss
Pickthall: And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight,
Yusufali: "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss;
Qarib: and forgive my father, for he was among the astray.
Sarwar: Forgive my father. He has gone astray.
Shakir: And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray;
Pickthall: And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err.
Yusufali: "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray;
Qarib: Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected.
Sarwar: Do not betray me
Shakir: And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised
Pickthall: And abase me not on the day when they are raised,
Yusufali: "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;-
Qarib: The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit
Sarwar: on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit
Shakir: The day on which property will not avail, nor sons
Pickthall: The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man)
Yusufali: "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail,
Qarib: except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart;
Sarwar: except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart.
Shakir: Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil)
Pickthall: Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart.
Yusufali: "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart;

Sarwar: On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near
Shakir: And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil),
Pickthall: And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil).
Yusufali: "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near,
Qarib: And Hell is brought near to the perverse. '
Sarwar: the pious and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones
Shakir: And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones,
Pickthall: And hell will appear plainly to the erring.
Yusufali: "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view;

Sarwar: besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?"
Shakir: Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves?
Pickthall: Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?
Yusufali: "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?'

Qarib: And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse
Sarwar: The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones,
Shakir: So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones,
Pickthall: Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers
Yusufali: "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil,

Shakir: But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers
Pickthall: Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers!
Yusufali: "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'"
