Sura 2: AL-BAQARA (THE COW) - Juz' 1

Qarib: Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and ears; their sight is dimmed and for them is a great punishment.
Sarwar: God has sealed their hearts and hearing and their vision is veiled; a great punishment awaits them.
Shakir: Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing and there is a covering over their eyes, and there is a great punishment for them
Pickthall: Allah hath sealed their hearing and their hearts, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be an awful doom.
Yusufali: Allah hath set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and on their eyes is a veil; great is the penalty they (incur).
Qarib: There are some people who say: 'We believe in Allah and the Last Day, ' yet they are not believers.
Sarwar: Some people say, "We believe in God and the Day of Judgment," but they are not true believers.
Shakir: And there are some people who say: We believe in Allah and the last day; and they are not at all believers
Pickthall: And of mankind are some who say: We believe in Allah and the Last Day, when they believe not.
Yusufali: Of the people there are some who say: "We believe in Allah and the Last Day;" but they do not (really) believe.
Qarib: They seek to deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive none except themselves, though they do not sense it.
Sarwar: They deceive God and the believers. However, they have deceived no one but themselves, a fact of which they are not aware.
Shakir: They desire to deceive Allah and those who believe, and they deceive only themselves and they do not perceive
Pickthall: They think to beguile Allah and those who believe, and they beguile none save themselves; but they perceive not.
Yusufali: Fain would they deceive Allah and those who believe, but they only deceive themselves, and realise (it) not!
Qarib: There is a sickness in their hearts which Allah has increased. For them there is a painful punishment because they lie.
Sarwar: A sickness exists in their hearts to which God adds more sickness. Besides this, they will suffer a painful punishment as a result of the lie which they speak.
Shakir: There is a disease in their hearts, so Allah added to their disease and they shall have a painful chastisement because they
Pickthall: In their hearts is a disease, and Allah increaseth their disease. A painful doom is theirs because they lie.
Yusufali: In their hearts is a disease; and Allah has increased their disease: And grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves).
Qarib: When it is said to them, 'Do not corrupt in the land, ' they reply, 'We are only reformers. '
Sarwar: When they are told not to commit corruption in the land, they reply, "We are only reformers".
Shakir: And when it is said to them, Do not make mischief in the land, they say: We are but peace-makers
Pickthall: And when it is said unto them: Make not mischief in the earth, they say: We are peacemakers only.
Yusufali: When it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "Why, we only Want to make peace!"
Qarib: But it is they who are the evildoers, though they do not sense it.
Sarwar: They, certainly, are corrupt but do not realize it.
Shakir: Now surely they themselves are the mischief makers, but they do not perceive
Pickthall: Are not they indeed the mischief-makers? But they perceive not.
Yusufali: Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realise (it) not.
Qarib: When it is said to them: 'Believe as (other) people believe, ' they reply, 'Are we to believe as fools believe? ' It is they who are the fools, if only they knew!
Sarwar: When they are told to believe as everyone else does, they say, "Should we believe as fools do?" In fact, they themselves are fools, but they do not know it.
Shakir: And when it is said to them: Believe as the people believe they say: Shall we believe as the fools believe? Now surely they themselves are the fools, but they do not know
Pickthall: And when it is said unto them: believe as the people believe, they say: shall we believe as the foolish believe? are not they indeed the foolish? But they know not.
Yusufali: When it is said to them: "Believe as the others believe:" They say: "Shall we believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the fools, but they do not know.
Qarib: When they meet those who believe, they say, 'We, too believe. ' But when they are alone with their devils, they say to them: 'We follow none but you, we were only mocking
Sarwar: To the believers they declare belief and, in secret to their own devils, they say, "We were only mocking".
Shakir: And when they meet those who believe, they say: We believe; and when they are alone with their Shaitans, they say: Surely we are with you, we were only mocking
Pickthall: And when they fall in with those who believe, they say: We believe; but when they go apart to their devils they declare: Lo! we are with you; verily we did but mock.
Yusufali: When they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe;" but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say: "We are really with you: We (were) only jesting."
Qarib: Allah will mock at them and prolong them in sin, blundering blindly.
Sarwar: God mocks them and gives them time to continue blindly in their transgressions.
Shakir: Allah shall pay them back their mockery, and He leaves them alone in their inordinacy, blindly wandering on
Pickthall: Allah (Himself) doth mock them, leaving them to wander blindly on in their contumacy.
Yusufali: Allah will throw back their mockery on them, and give them rope in their trespasses; so they will wander like blind ones (To and fro).
Qarib: Such are those who barter away guidance for error, their trade did not profit (them), nor are they guided.
Sarwar: They have traded guidance for error, but their bargain has had no profit and they have missed the true guidance.
Shakir: These are they who buy error for the right direction, so their bargain shall bring no gain, nor are they the followers of the right direction
Pickthall: These are they who purchase error at the price of guidance, so their commerce doth not prosper, neither are they guided.
Yusufali: These are they who have bartered Guidance for error: But their traffic is profitless, and they have lost true direction,
