Sura 90: AL-BALAD (THE CITY) - Juz' 30

فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ ﴿۱۱﴾
Qarib: Yet he has not scaled the height.
Sarwar: Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba
Shakir: But he would not attempt the uphill road,
Pickthall: But he hath not attempted the Ascent -
Yusufali: But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep.
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ ﴿۱۲﴾
Qarib: What could let you know what the height is!
Sarwar: Would that you knew what Aqaba is!
Shakir: And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is?
Pickthall: Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! -
Yusufali: And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?-
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ ﴿۱۳﴾
Qarib: (It is) the freeing of a slave,
Sarwar: It is the setting free of a slave
Shakir: (It is) the setting free of a slave,
Pickthall: (It is) to free a slave,
Yusufali: (It is:) freeing the bondman;
أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ ﴿۱۴﴾
Qarib: the giving of food upon the day of hunger
Sarwar: or, in a day of famine, the feeding of
Shakir: Or the giving of food in a day of hunger
Pickthall: And to feed in the day of hunger.
Yusufali: Or the giving of food in a day of privation
يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ ﴿۱۵﴾
Qarib: to an orphaned relative
Sarwar: an orphaned relative
Shakir: To an orphan, having relationship,
Pickthall: An orphan near of kin,
Yusufali: To the orphan with claims of relationship,
أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ ﴿۱۶﴾
Qarib: or to a needy person in distress;
Sarwar: and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of)
Shakir: Or to the poor man lying in the dust
Pickthall: Or some poor wretch in misery,
Yusufali: Or to the indigent (down) in the dust.
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ ﴿۱۷﴾
Qarib: so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful.
Sarwar: the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness.
Shakir: Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion
Pickthall: And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity.
Yusufali: Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion.
أُولَئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ ﴿۱۸﴾
Qarib: Those are the Companions of the Right.
Sarwar: These are the people of the right hand.
Shakir: These are the people of the right hand
Pickthall: Their place will be on the right hand.
Yusufali: Such are the Companions of the Right Hand.
وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ ﴿۱۹﴾
Qarib: But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left,
Sarwar: As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left
Shakir: And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand
Pickthall: But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand.
Yusufali: But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand.
عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُؤْصَدَةٌ ﴿۲۰﴾
Qarib: with the Fire closed above them.
Sarwar: who will be engulfed in the fire.
Shakir: On them is fire closed over
Pickthall: Fire will be an awning over them.
Yusufali: On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round).
