﴿۹﴾
Qarib: on the Day when consciences are examined,
Sarwar: On the day when all secrets will be made public, Shakir: On the day when hidden things shall be made manifest, Pickthall: On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. Yusufali: The Day that (all) things secret will be tested,
Qarib: when he will be helpless, with no supporter.
Sarwar: he will have no power, nor anyone to help him. Shakir: He shall have neither strength nor helper Pickthall: Then will he have no might nor any helper. Yusufali: (Man) will have no power, and no helper.
Qarib: By the sky with its returning rain,
Sarwar: By the rotating heavens Shakir: I swear by the raingiving heavens, Pickthall: By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, Yusufali: By the Firmament which returns (in its round),

Sarwar: and the replenishing earth, Shakir: And the earth splitting (with plants); Pickthall: And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) Yusufali: And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),-
Qarib: this is indeed a Decisive Word,
Sarwar: the Quran is the final word, Shakir: Most surely it is a decisive word, Pickthall: Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word, Yusufali: Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil):
وَمَا هُوَ بِالْهَزْلِ
﴿۱۴﴾
Qarib: it is not a jest.
Sarwar: and it is certainly not a jest. Shakir: And it is no joke Pickthall: It is no pleasantry. Yusufali: It is not a thing for amusement.
Qarib: They are cunningly devising,
Sarwar: They (disbelievers) plot every evil plan, Shakir: Surely they will make a scheme, Pickthall: Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) Yusufali: As for them, they are but plotting a scheme,
Qarib: and I am cunningly devising.
Sarwar: but I too plan against them. Shakir: And I (too) will make a scheme Pickthall: And I plot a plot (against them). Yusufali: And I am planning a scheme.
Qarib: Therefore respite the unbelievers, and delay them for a while.
Sarwar: Give respite to the disbelievers and leave them alone for a while. Shakir: So grant the unbelievers a respite: let them alone for a Pickthall: So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. Yusufali: Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). |
