لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
﴿۳۷﴾
Qarib: to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind.
Sarwar: whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. Shakir: To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind Pickthall: Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. Yusufali: To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;-
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
﴿۳۸﴾
Qarib: Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns,
Sarwar: Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds Shakir: Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, Pickthall: Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; Yusufali: Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds.
إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ
﴿۳۹﴾
Qarib: except the Companions of the Right.
Sarwar: except the people of the right hand Shakir: Except the people of the right hand, Pickthall: Save those who will stand on the right hand. Yusufali: Except the Companions of the Right Hand.
فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ
﴿۴۰﴾
Qarib: In Gardens they will question
Sarwar: who will be in Paradise Shakir: In gardens, they shall ask each other Pickthall: In gardens they will ask one another Yusufali: (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other,
عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ
﴿۴۱﴾
Qarib: concerning the sinners,
Sarwar: and will ask of the criminals, Shakir: About the guilty: Pickthall: Concerning the guilty: Yusufali: And (ask) of the Sinners:
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ
﴿۴۲﴾
Qarib: 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)? '
Sarwar: "what led you into hell?" Shakir: What has brought you into hell? Pickthall: What hath brought you to this burning? Yusufali: "What led you into Hell Fire?"
قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ
﴿۴۳﴾
Qarib: They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed
Sarwar: They will reply, "We did not pray, Shakir: They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; Pickthall: They will answer: We were not of those who prayed Yusufali: They will say: "We were not of those who prayed;
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ
﴿۴۴﴾
Qarib: and we did not feed the needy.
Sarwar: nor did we feed the destitute. Shakir: And we used not to feed the poor; Pickthall: Nor did we feed the wretched. Yusufali: "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent;
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ
﴿۴۵﴾
Qarib: We plunged in with the plungers
Sarwar: We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, Shakir: And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses Pickthall: We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, Yusufali: "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers;
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ
﴿۴۶﴾
Qarib: and belied the Day of Recompense
Sarwar: and rejected the Day of Judgment Shakir: And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; Pickthall: And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, Yusufali: "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, |
