Qarib: I will constrain him to a hard ascent.
Sarwar: We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. Shakir: I will make a distressing punishment overtake him Pickthall: On him I shall impose a fearful doom. Yusufali: Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities!
Qarib: He reflected, and then determined
Sarwar: He planned and plotted. Shakir: Surely he reflected and guessed, Pickthall: For lo! he did consider; then he planned - Yusufali: For he thought and he plotted;-
Qarib: death seized him, how was his determining!
Sarwar: May he be condemned! Shakir: But may he be cursed how he plotted; Pickthall: (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! Yusufali: And woe to him! How he plotted!-
Qarib: Again, death seized him, how was his determining!
Sarwar: What an evil plan he has made! Shakir: Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; Pickthall: Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - Yusufali: Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!-
Qarib: Then he looked,
Sarwar: May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, Shakir: Then he looked, Pickthall: Then looked he, Yusufali: Then he looked round;
Qarib: frowned and scowled;
Sarwar: frowned and scowled, Shakir: Then he frowned and scowled, Pickthall: Then frowned he and showed displeasure. Yusufali: Then he frowned and he scowled;
Qarib: then he retreated and grew proud
Sarwar: then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, Shakir: Then he turned back and was big with pride, Pickthall: Then turned he away in pride Yusufali: Then he turned back and was haughty;
Qarib: and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery;
Sarwar: said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. Shakir: ~Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); Pickthall: And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; Yusufali: Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old;
Qarib: It is nothing but the word of a mortal! '
Sarwar: These are only words from a mere mortal". Shakir: This is naught but the word of a mortal Pickthall: This is naught else than speech of mortal man. Yusufali: "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!"
Qarib: I will surely roast him in the Scorching.
Sarwar: I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. Shakir: I will cast him into hell Pickthall: Him shall I fling unto the burning. Yusufali: Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! |
