In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Qarib: O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped,
Sarwar: You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle,
Shakir: O you who have wrapped up in your garments!
Pickthall: O thou wrapped up in thy raiment!
Yusufali: O thou folded in garments!

Qarib: rise (to pray) the night except a little;
Sarwar: worship (God) for a few hours at night.
Shakir: Rise to pray in the night except a little,
Pickthall: Keep vigil the night long, save a little -
Yusufali: Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,-

Qarib: half the night, or a little less
Sarwar: (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night
Shakir: Half of it, or lessen it a little,
Pickthall: A half thereof, or abate a little thereof
Yusufali: Half of it,- or a little less,

Qarib: or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran.
Sarwar: and recite the Quran in a distinct tone;
Shakir: Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited
Pickthall: Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure,
Yusufali: Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones.

Qarib: We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word.
Sarwar: We are about to reveal to you a mighty word.
Shakir: Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word
Pickthall: For we shall charge thee with a word of weight.
Yusufali: Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message.

Qarib: Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech.
Sarwar: Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent.
Shakir: Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech
Pickthall: Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain.
Yusufali: Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise).

Qarib: You have by day prolonged occupations.
Sarwar: During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities.
Shakir: Surely you have in the day time a long occupation
Pickthall: Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business.
Yusufali: True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties:

Qarib: Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him.
Sarwar: Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity.
Shakir: And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion
Pickthall: So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion -
Yusufali: But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly.

Qarib: He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian.
Sarwar: He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian.
Shakir: The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector
Pickthall: Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender -
Yusufali: (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs.

Qarib: Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them.
Sarwar: Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them.
Shakir: And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance
Pickthall: And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking.
Yusufali: And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity).
