فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
﴿۲۱﴾
Qarib: How then were My punishment and My warnings!
Sarwar: How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. Shakir: How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! Pickthall: Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! Yusufali: Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning!
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ
﴿۲۲﴾
Qarib: We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember?
Sarwar: We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? Shakir: And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? Pickthall: And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? Yusufali: But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِالنُّذُرِ
﴿۲۳﴾
Qarib: Thamood, too, belied Our warnings.
Sarwar: The people of Thamud rejected Our warnings. Shakir: Samood rejected the warning Pickthall: (The tribe of) Thamud rejected warnings Yusufali: The Thamud (also) rejected (their) Warners.
فَقَالُوا أَبَشَرًا مِنَّا وَاحِدًا نَتَّبِعُهُ إِنَّا إِذًا لَفِي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍ
﴿۲۴﴾
Qarib: They said: 'Are we to follow a mortal who is one of us? Then indeed, we would surely be in error and insane.
Sarwar: They said, "Should we follow only one person among us. We shall be clearly in error and in trouble (if we do so). Shakir: So they said: What! a single mortal from among us! Shall we follow him? Most surely we shall in that case be in sure error and distress: Pickthall: For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness. Yusufali: For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad!
أَأُلْقِيَ الذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ
﴿۲۵﴾
Qarib: Out of all of us has the Reminder been given to him alone? Rather, he is indeed an arrogant liar. '
Sarwar: How is it that he has received guidance? In fact, he is the most untruthfull and arrogant person". Shakir: Has the reminder been made to light upon him from among us? Nay! he is an insolent liar! Pickthall: Hath the remembrance been given unto him alone among us? Nay, but he is a rash liar. Yusufali: "Is it that the Message is sent to him, of all people amongst us? Nay, he is a liar, an insolent one!"
سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَنِ الْكَذَّابُ الْأَشِرُ
﴿۲۶﴾
Qarib: (To him We said): 'Tomorrow they shall know who is the arrogant liar.
Sarwar: (We told Salih), "Tomorrow they will know who is the most arrogant liar. Shakir: Tomorrow shall they know who is the liar, the insolent one Pickthall: (Unto their warner it was said): To-morrow they will know who is the rash liar. Yusufali: Ah! they will know on the morrow, which is the liar, the insolent one!
إِنَّا مُرْسِلُو النَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَهُمْ فَارْتَقِبْهُمْ وَاصْطَبِرْ
﴿۲۷﴾
Qarib: We are sending to them as a trial, a shecamel, so watch them and have patience.
Sarwar: We are sending the she-camel to them to test them. So watch them and be patient. Shakir: Surely We are going to send the she-camel as a trial for them; therefore watch them and have patience Pickthall: Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; Yusufali: For We will send the she-camel by way of trial for them. So watch them, (O Salih), and possess thyself in patience!
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ الْمَاءَ قِسْمَةٌ بَيْنَهُمْ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُحْتَضَرٌ
﴿۲۸﴾
Qarib: Tell them that the water is to be divided between them, a drink each for them in turn. '
Sarwar: Tell them that each one of them has the right to have a certain share of water". Shakir: And inform them that the water is shared between them; every share of the water shall be regulated Pickthall: And inform them that the water is to be shared between (her and) them. Every drinking will be witnessed. Yusufali: And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns).
فَنَادَوْا صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَى فَعَقَرَ
﴿۲۹﴾
Qarib: But they called their companion who took hold of her and hamstrung her.
Sarwar: They called together their companions and agreed to slay the she-camel. Shakir: But they called their companion, so he took (the sword) and slew (her) Pickthall: But they call their comrade and he took and hamstrung (her). Yusufali: But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her).
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
﴿۳۰﴾
Qarib: How then were My punishment and My warnings!
Sarwar: How terrible was My punishment and warning. Shakir: How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! Pickthall: Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! Yusufali: Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! |
