By the break of Day (۱)

By the Nights twice five; (۲)

By the even and odd (contrasted); (۳)

And by the Night when it passeth away;- (۴)

Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? (۵)

Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- (۶)

Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, (۷)

The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? (۸)

And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- (۹)

And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? (۱۰)
