بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَى
﴿۱﴾
By the star when it plunges, (1)
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَى
﴿۲﴾
your companion is neither astray, neither errs, (2)
وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَى
﴿۳﴾
nor does he speak out of desire. (3)
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَى
﴿۴﴾
Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, (4)
عَلَّمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَى
﴿۵﴾
taught by One who is Stern in power. (5)
ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَاسْتَوَى
﴿۶﴾
Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm (6)
وَهُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَى
﴿۷﴾
while he was in the highest horizon; (7)
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّى
﴿۸﴾
then he drew near, and became close (8)
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَى
﴿۹﴾
he was but two bows' length or even nearer, (9)
فَأَوْحَى إِلَى عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَى
﴿۱۰﴾
so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). (10)
مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَى
﴿۱۱﴾
His heart did not lie of what he saw. (11)
أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ عَلَى مَا يَرَى
﴿۱۲﴾
What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! (12)
وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَى
﴿۱۳﴾
Indeed, he saw him in another descent (13)
عِنْدَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَى
﴿۱۴﴾
at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending (14)
عِنْدَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَى
﴿۱۵﴾
close to the Garden of Refuge. (15)
إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَى
﴿۱۶﴾
When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes (16)
مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَى
﴿۱۷﴾
his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray (17)
لَقَدْ رَأَى مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَى
﴿۱۸﴾
for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18)
أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّى
﴿۱۹﴾
(Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, (19)
وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الْأُخْرَى
﴿۲۰﴾
and, another, the third manat? (20)
أَلَكُمُ الذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ الْأُنْثَى
﴿۲۱﴾
What, have you males, and He females! (21)
تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَى
﴿۲۲﴾
That is indeed an unjust division. (22)
إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا أَسْمَاءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى الْأَنْفُسُ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ مِنْ رَبِّهِمُ الْهُدَى
﴿۲۳﴾
They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, even though the guidance of their Lord has come to them. (23)
أَمْ لِلْإِنْسَانِ مَا تَمَنَّى
﴿۲۴﴾
Is the human to have whatever he fancies? (24)
فَلِلَّهِ الْآخِرَةُ وَالْأُولَى
﴿۲۵﴾
To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. (25)
وَكَمْ مِنْ مَلَكٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ لَا تُغْنِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ يَأْذَنَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَرْضَى
﴿۲۶﴾
How many an angel is there in the heavens whose intercession shall not benefit until Allah gives permission to whom He will and is pleased. (26)
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ الْأُنْثَى
﴿۲۷﴾
Those who disbelieve in the Everlasting Life call the angels by female names. (27)
وَمَا لَهُمْ بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا
﴿۲۸﴾
Yet of this they have no knowledge, they follow mere conjecture, and conjecture does not help against truth. (28)
فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْ مَنْ تَوَلَّى عَنْ ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
﴿۲۹﴾
So turn from those who turn away from Our Remembrance and only desire this present life. (29)
ذَلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ ضَلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اهْتَدَى
﴿۳۰﴾
That is all they have of knowledge. Your Lord knows best who has strayed from His Path, and those who are guided. (30)
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسَاءُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا بِالْحُسْنَى
﴿۳۱﴾
To Allah belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. He will recompense the evildoers according to their deeds, and recompense those who have done good with the finest reward (31)
الَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنْشَأَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنْتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ فَلَا تُزَكُّوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَى
﴿۳۲﴾
those who avoid the major sin and indecencies except the small sins, indeed your Lord is of immense forgiveness and He is more knowledgeable of you when He created you from the earth and when you were still unborn in your mothers' wombs. Do not praise yourself. Allah knows the cautious. (32)
أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي تَوَلَّى
﴿۳۳﴾
Have you considered he who turns his back, (33)
وَأَعْطَى قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَى
﴿۳۴﴾
and gives a little, grudgingly? (34)
أَعِنْدَهُ عِلْمُ الْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَى
﴿۳۵﴾
Or, does he possess knowledge of the Unseen, and can therefore see? (35)
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَى
﴿۳۶﴾
Or, has he not been told of that which is in the Scrolls of Moses (36)
وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ الَّذِي وَفَّى
﴿۳۷﴾
and Abraham, who paid his debt in full? (37)
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَى
﴿۳۸﴾
That no soul shall bear another's burden, (38)
وَأَنْ لَيْسَ لِلْإِنْسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَى
﴿۳۹﴾
and that everyone shall have in his account only that which he worked for, (39)
وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُ سَوْفَ يُرَى
﴿۴۰﴾
and that his work is surely seen (40)
ثُمَّ يُجْزَاهُ الْجَزَاءَ الْأَوْفَى
﴿۴۱﴾
then, he shall be recompensed for it in full repayment (41)
وَأَنَّ إِلَى رَبِّكَ الْمُنْتَهَى
﴿۴۲﴾
and that the final return is to your Lord, (42)
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَى
﴿۴۳﴾
that it is He who causes to laugh and causes to weep. (43)
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا
﴿۴۴﴾
and that it is He who causes to die, and causes to live (44)
وَأَنَّهُ خَلَقَ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَى
﴿۴۵﴾
and that it is He who created pairs, the male and the female, (45)
مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَى
﴿۴۶﴾
from an ejaculated drop (of sperm), (46)
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُخْرَى
﴿۴۷﴾
and that upon Him is the second creation (47)
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَغْنَى وَأَقْنَى
﴿۴۸﴾
and that it is He who gives riches and causes to hoard, (48)
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ رَبُّ الشِّعْرَى
﴿۴۹﴾
and that He is the Lord of (the star) Sirius, (49)
وَأَنَّهُ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا الْأُولَى
﴿۵۰﴾
that it was He that destroyed ancient Aad (50)
وَثَمُودَ فَمَا أَبْقَى
﴿۵۱﴾
and Thamood, sparing no one, (51)
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِنْ قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَى
﴿۵۲﴾
and before them the nation of Noah, they exceeded in evil and were insolent. (52)
وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَى
﴿۵۳﴾
He plunged the villages (53)
فَغَشَّاهَا مَا غَشَّى
﴿۵۴﴾
so that there came upon them that which came. (54)
فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَى
﴿۵۵﴾
So which then of your Lord's favors do you dispute? (55)
هَذَا نَذِيرٌ مِنَ النُّذُرِ الْأُولَى
﴿۵۶﴾
This is a warner from the warners of ancient times. (56)
أَزِفَتِ الْآزِفَةُ
﴿۵۷﴾
The Imminent is near at hand; (57)
لَيْسَ لَهَا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
﴿۵۸﴾
none except Allah can disclose it. (58)
أَفَمِنْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
﴿۵۹﴾
Do you marvel then at this discourse (the Koran)? (59)
وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
﴿۶۰﴾
Or do you laugh, and do you not weep (60)
وَأَنْتُمْ سَامِدُونَ
﴿۶۱﴾
while you are thoughtless? (61)
فَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَاعْبُدُوا
﴿۶۲﴾
Rather, prostrate to Allah and worship Him. (62)
